Understanding Spiritual Laws and Forces: The Paper Airplane Model

Many people wonder why prayers don’t get answered in the time or way they are asking. Other times, people have listened to a preacher state a single “guaranteed” method to have prayers answered, but when put into practice, they only work a small portion of the time. There are a number of reasons for this, but I think they are best explained through an example I was telling my wife the other day: the example of throwing a paper airplane.

Throwing a paper airplane seems like an incredibly simple process:   You fold it, you throw it, done.

Yet, if you think about all the variables and factors that go into how that airplane flies, it is much more complex than it first appears.
In order to throw a paper airplane, there first has to be a paper airplane. The airplane could be made with a variety of sizes and thicknesses of paper, each of which has its own weight. There are a variety of airplane designs that involve folding the paper different ways to arrive at a flying object, and while each is unique in its appearance and design, all of them are still paper airplanes. To add even more variation, while it doesn’t influence the function of the object, the airplane could be a wide range of colors or designs as well.

Once the paper airplane is folded, it is now time to throw it. While this seems straightforward, there are many things that influence how it flies. Aerodynamics of the plane design show their influence here as both lift and drag exert their influences. Then there’s the force used to throw the object, which is gradually slowed by friction in the air but the momentum behind the plane works to counteract that. Gravity is part of drag that works to bring the plane down to the ground, but that doesn’t fully account for the level of atmospheric pressure exerted when at sea level versus a higher elevation, meaning that at different elevations, the pull gravity exerts is different. Furthermore, there are other external factors such as wind speed and direction that will influence the airplane’s flight.

So how does all of this relate to spiritual laws and answered prayers?? First, let’s take the example of the airplane and pretend it is the person. Each person is designed uniquely by God, and each of us are wired to function optimally in certain ways. The reason personality profile tests work is because there are still main “types” of people, but at the end of the day no two people are fully alike. This is exactly like making a paper airplane. Paper size, shape, thickness, and even color are like the differences between people and personalities, but there is more. Each of us have different life encounters which also cause us to have different beliefs and inner wounds. We each have certain areas where we either understand or misunderstand God’s nature, our nature, and that of the world around us. There is the influence that our spirit and soul exert on various aspects of our lives as well. These are like the differences in the paper and folding of the airplane. Those unique perspectives (whether healthy or unhealthy) and subsequent inner soul and spiritual influence, shape who we are and how we interact with the outside world, and, akin to the flight of a paper airplane, they affect how spiritual laws influence us as well.

Now let us bring in external forces: demonic resistance and the curses of others, angelic assistance and the prayers of others, and bloodline blessings and iniquity, all of which influence how, when, and if prayers get answered. There is our faith, the faith of other people praying in that situation as well, as well as our and their doubt and unbelief. There are regional atmospheres influenced in part by angels and demons and other spirit beings but also by the collective consciousness of the people living in that region.

Then there are other spiritual laws such as sowing and reaping, focus, honor, impartation, blessing, and more. All of these various factors act upon us simultaneously, and each one exerts its own influence on how, when, and if our prayers get answered. It is only when we don’t understand that there are multiple factors at play and do things to actively enhance or mitigate their effects that we lose out.

With a paper airplane, we can do something that adds weight (usually a paperclip) to help it fly better/longer, we can increase the force of the throw, move somewhere without wind or turn so we are throwing with the wind current, and stand on a higher elevation so it takes longer to reach the ground. Each of these actions address some of the opposing forces that negatively influence the paper airplane’s flight. Likewise, when we understand the various spiritual laws and spiritual forces at work in our lives, we can make conscious choices that promote the outcomes we desire. Both inner healing and mind renewal decrease the ability of demons to influence us. They also can decrease doubt and help enhance our faith. As we pray to engage the angelic host and bind demonic forces, we will experience a greater measure of spiritual assistance. As we sow with our thoughts, words, and actions over time we will reap the benefits of those choices as well. If we gather in a group with others, we can purposefully extend a targeted influence over a certain situation, problem, etc. that affects our region and that is influenced by regional collective consciousness, shifting the atmosphere our way. All of these are examples of a great number of things that can be done to influence prayers and outcomes in our lives, but it all boils down to a simple concept: At the end of the day, our input decides the output and if we want a different outcome, we need different input.

As we change the input coming through our lives toward heaven, then the output of heaven toward us will alter accordingly.

Do You Believe The Radical Simple Gospel?

I was out with family at a lunch the other day, and as we began discussing something Bible-related, somehow the subject of Jesus and never dying came up. I forget exactly how it came up, but someone commented on my belief that we aren’t supposed to die, and how it’s a new one. Nothing about it is new, as Jesus spoke on the subject quite plainly multiple times in scripture (John 6 and 8 to name a few). Paul spoke somewhat clearly on it as well, to the point that 2 Timothy 1:10-11 specifically states “the gospel of life and immortality of which I have been appointed an apostle, teacher, and preacher”. Paul clearly identifies his job as a teacher and forerunner of the gospel of life and immortality. In reality, this gospel message that Jesus and Paul preached is radical yet simple.

While chatting with my family at this restaurant, it really hit me just how radical Jesus was for his day. Think about it. In John 11, Jesus and Martha had a discussion about the “Last Day Resurrection”. An end-times resurrection isn’t actually a new belief from Christianity—it was a common belief of the Jews of Jesus’ day. So what made Jesus so radical? His reply.

“Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’
Martha answered, ‘I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.’
Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'” (John 11:23-26)

When Martha and Jesus discussed Lazarus’s death, she referenced a Last-Day resurrection, but Jesus didn’t go along with her comments. He said something so radical that the people of his day just didn’t understand. Jesus said that whoever believed in him wouldn’t even need a last-day resurrection because they would simply never die in the first place. Most of the Church today still doesn’t get it. Most of us are still in Martha’s shoes and waiting for and End Times resurrection, not realizing that Jesus died and rose again so that we who believe in him would never physically die.

Jesus was extreme for his time in many ways. He called himself a “son of God”, elevating himself to godhood status (the son of a horse is a horse, the son of a God is a god). He told his disciples to forgive endlessly (seventy-times-seven) and to offer to do extra work for Roman soldiers when forced to do a little. He told people he would tear down and rebuild the temple in three days, and that he would come back to life after he died. Jesus was a radical guy. But the most radical thing he said of all the many extreme things he said was that we could live forever without dying.

Two thousand years of church history later, we are just beginning to re-emerge on this concept that has been buried in plain sight in the scriptures for centuries. Scholar upon scholar has studied verses such as John 3:16 that literally states that “whoever believed in him would not die but live forever”, and somehow arrived at a different, more esoteric meaning to the verse instead of the one that is plainly stated. God is reforming the Church, and the result is that we have stumbled across “cutting-edge” beliefs such as immortality . . . beliefs that have been plainly stated in the scriptures for generations upon generations. Yet, for whatever reason, God is now removing the veil that has covered the eyes of His people for so many years, and we are beginning to grasp again the simple revelation of the gospel—that we can live and not die.

Provoking Faith For The Impossible

Back in the early 2000’s I first heard about gemstones appearing supernaturally from heaven, brought in some cases by angels. I began to ask the Lord to let me experience this miracle myself. Roughly ten years later, in 2013, I was blessed to begin to experience gemstones appearing from heaven for myself, and it has sent me on a journey of further provoking faith for the impossible.

Since my book Gemstones From Heaven was first published in August of 2015, I have continued to pursue these types of miracles to chronicle them in my God Signs book series. The second book in the series, Feathers from Heaven, was published a year later in August of 2016, and shares scriptures, stories, and my own encounters with this particular heavenly manifestation. I have other books in the series on gold and gold dust, heavenly oil, and manna from heaven that are all in various stages of being written.

While it might seem a fruitless pursuit to some, and one that takes people’s focus off of Jesus, I have a different perspective. I believe that through enjoying and engaging the gifts that He gives us, God provokes us to have faith for the impossible.

A friend once shared a dream with me, and in this dream, she and a group of people were in a period of economic hardship and religious persecution. They took the gemstones they had received supernaturally and used them to trade for things they needed. When I say “trade”, they weren’t bartering with other humans—they were trading with heaven. The gemstones were the “evidence of things hoped for and substance of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1)”, and in the dream, they used these miracle jewels to access heaven’s supply in their times of need.

I believe that when we engage our faith for the impossible, we become better equipped to manifest God’s solutions into the practical problems of this world. In fact, I believe that almost all miracles are practical and are meant to solve problems and that our faith plays a major role in miracles being released into the earth.

Right now in Georgia, there is a bible that is flowing with oil. It began over a year ago, and thousands of vials of oil have been given to those who are hungry for God to move in their lives. While the oil itself is not a mystical object with special powers, it is appearing miraculously, and that oil is being used to anoint people and pray over them, and many are getting healed. Multiple accounts of cancers being healed have even been reported. You can read more about the oil here and watch a compilation of videos on the subject here. God is using this oil miracle to enliven the faith of His people, and as a result, they are believing God for the impossible, and are seeing the impossible happen.

Sometimes it seems silly to believe for seemingly-impossible things, but when the impossible starts to actually happen, something changes inside of us. When we step out in faith, our faith grows. The parable of the mustard seed of faith wasn’t about having little to no faith—it was about a growth process to expand our faith.

Personally, I have been praying for years for leaves from the tree of life. Think about what that would look like. Imagine being in a church meeting, or even in a Bible study in someone’s home, and beautiful leaves begin to float down from the ceiling or appear on the surfaces around you, and a sweet aroma fills the air. As you pick up one of these leaves, the allergies that have been plaguing you evaporate, and the nagging nerve pain in your low back vanishes instantly. Imagine bringing a leaf home to your sick spouse, who hasn’t spent a pain-free day in years. He or she takes it gently in their hands, and as they hold it, you see the lines of tension on their face soften, and fade away. They get up and start doing things they haven’t been able to do in years, and laughter begins to fill the house once again. This seems far-fetched to some, but Revelation 22:2 says that, “. . . the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” Nations are made up of large quantities of people, so leaves that are meant to heal the nations are made for you and me.

Bread and manna miracles in the Bible were an act of God’s provision for His people. Jesus changed the water to wine to provide for people. When the jar flowed with oil supernaturally in 2 Kings 4, it was to provide for God’s people. When Moses struck the rock and it flowed with water, that again was the provision of God for His chosen ones. God wants us to experience miracles, and He is doing it on purpose as a way of provoking faith for the impossible. After all, if we can believe that leaves or feathers or jewels will appear supernaturally, is it really that hard for God to fix a marriage, or finances, addition problems, or incurable diseases? It’s time for us to raise the bar of our faith a bit higher and believe for the impossible.

Is The Law Of Attraction In The Bible?

The concept of the “Law of Attraction” was made famous by the book “The Secret” which was published in 2006, and its material has garnered quite a bit of attention over the last decade. This “law” is based on the idea that the things we release as far as our hopes, dreams, goals, and most specifically our inner intentions go out into the universe where they will then be reflected back upon us with the things that we desire. The term most often used for this is “manifesting”, where someone releases an intention into the universe and “manifests” their will. While the concepts in it are usually applied to money or possessions, and are not new ideas even among the New Age where it is primarily marketed and targeted, it certainly can be confusing to a reader who feels like the information resonates in some way but isn’t sure how this “Law of Attraction” fits in with biblical principles. Let’s take a look at the answer to the question, “Is The Law of Attraction in the Bible?”

The simple answer is “No . . . and Yes.” So, really, not so simple after all.

The Law of Attraction as it is usually touted is based on the concept of a benevolent and intelligent Universe that keeps track of our thoughts and intentions and reflects them back upon us. Keep in mind that “universe” is always capitalized in this context because it is treated not as an inanimate existence, but a benevolent force with a mind of its own. In fact, this Universe sounds SO benevolent that it almost could be mistaken for God. And that’s really where it fails the Biblical sniff-test. This teaching takes the created universe and elevates it to the level of God, something that believers were warned about pretty clearly in Romans 1:18-23. The passage is actually pretty enlightening regarding this subject, so let’s read the whole thing then continue:

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.”

While the focus of the verse is on the wrath of God, let’s skip that part and look at the why of the wrath. It says that God has made His nature plain to everyone because of what? The creation. God’s creation displays His invisible qualities, such as His eternal power and divine nature. Furthermore, it goes on to explain that because this is all clearly visible in creation, everyone is without excuse.

Here’s where this connects with The Law of Attraction and “The Secret”: In verse 20 it says, “for since the creation of the world. . . ” That word for “world” isn’t actually the word world, but the Greek word “kosmos” (Strongs G2889), which is, unsurprisingly, the English word “cosmos.” Another word for the “cosmos” is the “universe.” If we read it with that in mind, it tells us that the Universe spoken of in the Law of Attraction is 1) a created thing and 2) that it points directly to God’s power and divinity, so we are without an excuse to deny His existence.

The New Age has taken the universe as a created entity and done what the rest of the passage speaks of—turned it into what is essentially an idol to worship. This is where the New Age concept of the Law of Attraction isn’t just not-biblical, but is actually fairly anti-christ in nature, putting the focus on created beings instead of the One True God.

There’s more to the story however, because as I said before, it is both unbiblical and biblical. Let’s look at the other side of the equation, but before we do that, let’s ask ourselves the question, “Why is the Law of Attraction so attractive?”

What makes this idea so attractive are actually two primary things:
1) It has a positive feeling connected to it.
2) It works.

If it was just that someone gets good feels related to the idea, that wouldn’t really be enough to keep people on board long-term, but the fact that it actually works is why this idea is propagated and is partly why people are, dare I say, attracted to the Law of Attraction. People like things that work and people tend to tell others about things they have tried that work. In other words, the Law of Attraction gets a lot of word-of-mouth advertising when people find it effective. Since that’s the case, let’s take a peek at what about it is scriptural, and how we can put that to use in our own lives.

There are two primary verses that can be used to explain the Law of Attraction in Scripture. The first is Luke 6:37-38 which says, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

It’s quite simple—what we put out, we get back, whether it is judgments, condemnation, forgiveness, or anything else at all. Furthermore, when we put it out, we get it back in a greater degree than we put it out, so there is a wisdom-nugget in there to be wise about what and how we act and think because “with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

The second passage that expresses this concept is Galatians 6:7-9 which states:

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

This passage shows us another aspect of this Law—that really, the Law of Attraction is simply the Law of Sowing and Reaping by a different name. It makes a mockery of God to think we can sow without reaping, because whatever we sow, we are guaranteed to reap. Galatians 6 has two tidbits of wisdom for us as well in this regard. The first is to pay attention to what we sow, because everything either brings death or life with it in return. The second nugget of wisdom is that we must persevere in our sowing because while things do not always appear immediately, as long as we persist, we will receive our harvest. Hebrews 6:12 explains that concept by saying, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” Faith and patience are primary keys to reaping what we have sown.

To answer the “Yes” side of “is the Law of Attraction biblical, it is literally just a repackaging of the Biblical principle of sowing and reaping. It says that whatever we put out, we will get back . . in good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.

One key point to remember here is that our prayers, our thoughts, our words, and even our actions all play a role in sowing and reaping. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The last part, thoughts and intents of the heart means exactly what it sounds like—the things we think and our intentions and expectations for things. That’s why Proverbs 23:7a says, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” The things we think, we become—sowing and reaping yet again.

There are other ways of expressing this concept, such as “what you behold, you become” but at the end of the day whether we call it “Beholding”, “the Law of Focus”, “the Law of Attraction”, “Sowing and Reaping”, or something else entirely, it is all just various ways of expressing the well-supported biblical concept that what we put out, we will receive back in like kind. Even Jesus taught on this subject. However, regardless of what one reads and what tools someone decides to use related to intention, manifestation, faith, and attraction, please let us always keep in mind that we aren’t sowing it out to a benevolent and sentient Universe, but a benevolent and sentient God who created that universe. And let us always remember what Psalm 37:4 says, which is that as we delight in Him, this benevolent and sentient God of the cosmos will give us the desires of our hearts.

Look Into My Eyes of Love

I opened up a somewhat leading question on social media this week having to do with hell and God’s love.  The initial post read as follows:

 

Question: Is hell something that God created?

If so, then don’t the scriptures agree that even hell cannot keep God’s love away?

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

What if even though hell exists, and people do go there, that Jesus, the lamb who was slain in both time and eternity (Rev. 13:8), is still able to save because His love never fails (1 Cor 13:8), and nothing in all creation is able to separate us forever from His love??

We have been discussing things such as what hell is or isn’t, does God love Satan, what the passage in Luke about Lazarus, the poor man, and Abrahams’ bosom means, and more.  The conversation has had its ups and downs, the ups largely being mature adult discussion and open dialogue, and the downs being pharisaic finger-pointers who brought nothing to the conversation (I had to delete one or two who could do nothing other than be rude to others), there was one particular story that stuck out at me such that I wanted to share it with all of you (done with permission).  This story is by Ashley Cook, and she shared a dream the Lord gave her after her dad died.  I don’t give post-dream commentary because I think it speaks volumes all on its own.  I hope that as you read, regardless of what you believe about hell, judgment, etc. that you will be touched by the vast and truly inexhaustible love of our Heavenly Father.

 

“When my Dad passed away, I was unsure of his salvation. I prayed and interceded, as the war for his soul was tangible at times. When I finally left his side to go home to rest on my birthday, I had a dream. It was my Dad meeting Jesus. My Dad was wearing this old worn out armor, with holes everywhere. In the dream, Jesus showed my Dad the cross and explained to him why He did it. Then, for the first time my Dad looked into the eyes of Jesus. Before he had been too ashamed to look him in the eye. And suddenly as He looked into the heart of pure love, my Dad could not deny Him. That one look brought so much love, and truth. My Dad’s armor turned into a beautiful shiny silver armor! I knew then my Dad had believed.

When I woke up I began to praise God. He spoke to me and showed me that He gives everyone one final opportunity to believe. He said “Do you think anyone can look into my eyes of love and still deny Me?” I believe in God’s mercy and grace, that when people die they are taken to meet Jesus personally and have one final opportunity to believe in or deny Him. I can’t say if there may be those who still deny Him and where they may go, but I have surely learned that God thinks way beyond my capacity to comprehend, and I should not think that the scripture is anything less than multidimensional!”

The Mechanism of a Vow

A few weeks ago I was jumping on our trampoline with the grandgirls, when one of them, playing make-believe, announced that she was vowing something. I couldn’t even tell you what it was, nor what pretend game she was playing, but I immediately stopped her, then explained to all of them that they are never to make vows under any circumstances. This is uncommon, and unpopular, but I find it very important, and very scriptural. Most people make vows when they get married—my wife and I did not. If people understood vows, I believe they wouldn’t make them, ever, and believe the reason most people do is because they don’t understand the mechanism of a vow.

To explore this subject we need to look at what a vow is, what it does, and why we shouldn’t make them.

What is a Vow?

A vow is a promise that carries spiritual weight behind it. It is best understood as a legal contract that requires payment. Vows are agreements to perform some kind of action, and the payment is the action that the vow states one will do.

Numbers 30:2 says, “If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.”

A vow is a binding obligation that requires one to do everything that he or she has stated in the vow, as it says above. Some other verses related to paying vows are as follows:

Psalm 50:14 “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High;”

Psalm 66:13 “I shall come into Your house with burnt offerings; I shall pay You my vows . . .”

Proverbs 7:14 “I was due to offer peace offerings; Today I have paid my vows.”

What Does A Vow do?

Because a vow is a legal agreement, it carries weight of authority behind it. If the vow is fulfilled, the person is released from it. If not, they reap the consequences of failing to fulfill the terms of the contract.

For this reason Deuteronomy 23:21-23 says, “When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the LORD your God will surely require it of you. However, if you refrain from vowing, it would not be sin in you. You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God, what you have promised.”

It is important to follow through and keep the vows we make, as they are legally binding in the spirit realm and the laws of the universe are designed to enforce the vows we make. A vow essentially creates a covenant between you and the cosmos, and the spiritual laws of the universe expect you to fulfill that which you have vowed. It is a bit like how nature abhors a vacuum—a vow is a bit like creating a vacuum, and nature expects you to fill it.

Why We Shouldn’t Make Vows

Jesus was very clear when he spoke about vows, as was James.

Matthew 5:33-37 says, “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

James 5:12 says, “Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.”

The reason James exhorts people not to make vows is that when you fail to fulfill the vow, you bring yourself under condemnation because you have broken a spiritual agreement. Jesus explained that we are not to swear oaths or vows for any reason because we don’t have control over making anything happen no matter how hard we try. Thus, if we say something we should simply make an effort to keep our word without creating spiritually binding legal contracts. If we do, we are playing into the plans of the enemy, as they will attempt to prevent us from fulfilling the terms, placing us under condemnation and giving them an easy ability to attack us.

There are some other passages that give us wisdom in regards to vow-making, or rather not making them at all.
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 says, When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.

Proverbs 20:25 – It is a trap for a man to say rashly, “It is holy!” And after the vows to make inquiry.

Malachi 1:14 “But cursed be the swindler who has a male in his flock and vows it, but sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord, for I am a great King,” says the LORD of hosts, “and My name is feared among the nations.”

These three verses show us that
1) it is better to not make a vow than to make it and fail it
2) It is foolish to make vows without knowing what you are getting into in advance
3) if you don’t follow through with your vow, you come under a curse.

Conclusion

When we understand that vows are a spiritual contract that legally binds us to either complete the vow or suffer under a curse which opens doors for the enemy to attack us via sin (the sin of breaking the vow), we will understand that making vows is foolishness. The mechanism of a vow is incredibly important. Consider the negative effects that can occur in one’s marriage if you make a vow that you end up breaking somewhere down the line. Will the judgments that the cosmos sends your way due to your actions help or hurt your marriage? How is making that vow actually going to help you be a good spouse if those things aren’t inside your heart already—and if they are inside your heart anyway, do you really need to make a vow?

Jesus and James both instructed people not to make vows for a reason. The simple solution is to not make them, no matter what tradition tells us we should do whether at a wedding or in any other situation. We must become people of integrity who are known for keeping our word. This is evidence of the fruit of the Spirit at work in our lives, and is our responsibility as sons and daughters of God.

 

How How To Get Free From Past Vows

Most people have already made vows sometime in the past, whether a “pledge” to a group or organization, even harmless ones like the Boy Scouts, or even to a nation.  While personally I support my country, I don’t believe in pledges because they are simply a vow by another name. If you have already made vows and want to get free, it is usually fairly simple, and can be done in four easy steps through prayer.

1.  Acknowledge that you made a vow

2. State that you repent (which means to change your thinking) from doing so.

3. Break agreement with the vow

4. Decree that the blood of Jesus makes it null and void and releases you from it.

In some cases, such as with Freemasonry, you may feel led by the Spirit to do more specific and in-depth prayer, but in most cases the above four steps should suffice.  As with all things, pray as you feel led by God in the moment, and pay attention to other prompts you may feel such as praying over an article of clothing related to that group, or even destroying documents you may have signed your name to in a pledge.  (Please note this does not apply to legal documents such as wills, mortgages, and such.  I am only referring to those pledges and vows that are to groups and organizations, not legal agreements which are the equivalent of you putting your “yes” down on paper, and which you will need at a later date.)

You might pray this prayer or something similar:

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I have made vows to (the group or person you vowed) saying (state the actual promises you made if you can remember. If not, skip this part).  I repent for making them, and choose according to your Word to no longer make vows, and let my “yes” stand alone.  I break agreement and come out of alignment with those vows, and apply the blood of Jesus to cover and protect me.  I decree that the blood of Jesus has already paid every penalty for breaking these vows, and I thank you Jesus for your shed blood that sets me free from every mistake.  I receive the forgiveness and freedom that comes from you right now.  Amen.

Christianity Versus Nudity

I was talking to a friend a while back when we were doing some home-improvement projects.  It was hot out and she asked if I minded if she took off her shirt as she had a somewhat sporty bra on (which I should mention covered more than many bathing suit tops do).  I didn’t care and my wife was fine with it, but that launched us into a discussion about nudity and social appropriateness.  This made me think later about nudism for believers, and why it would or would not be recommended as a practice/lifestyle for followers of Jesus.

The first knee-jerk reaction I can imagine many would have is “No! That is sin!”  And maybe it is.  That is certainly a real possibility.  And maybe it isn’t.  And maybe it just depends.  And that is exactly what I was pondering, so let me bring you with me to review some of what I considered and where I ended up.

First, we know that in the beginning nudism was the norm.  Eden as a whole was obviously comfortable to Adam and Eve, and I would suggest the way their bodies were made that they were impervious to injury or discomfort, having the ability to regulate their temperature, etc. to meet their needs at any time, making clothing entirely unnecessary.  While much of that is speculative, for the first portion of Adam and Eve’s lives, clothing simply did not exist.

In fact, even after they ate of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, observed they were naked, and then hid out of shame, God didn’t actually complain a single time about their nakedness.  He simply asked them “Who told you that you were naked? (Genesis 3:11)  God was entirely unconcerned about their nakedness.  What He was bothered by was the fact that they were bothered by it, especially since that was a symptom of a deeper problem—their sin.

As I consider all of the various sex and sex-related issues that exist in our world—lust, homosexuality and transgenderism, rape, pedophilia and varying other kinds of deviant sexual behavior, and more, I cannot help but consider that the Church’s stance has largely been reactionary.  “Avoid all of these things and you should be able to avoid sexual sin” is typically the Church’s go-to modus operandi.  On the one hand that’s not a bad idea, in that we collectively teach self-discipline, however ineffective it often may be.  Self-discipline is a healthy skill to possess, so that’s not bad in and of itself.  However, the problem is that self-discipline isn’t enough by itself, and that is often what the Church brings to the table.  If you discipline yourself enough, talk with other people of similar gender to keep yourself “accountable”, and avoid areas where you might give in to weakness, and pray a lot about it, that should be sufficient.

Again, I’m not just bashing on the church, because most of those above (minus the accountability one) are actually really good ideas.  For example, avoiding hanging out with people who do drugs because of a propensity to do drugs with them is just wisdom.  Assuming people are going to tell the truth to an accountability group, however, is probably a little naive.  I suggest what we need is a different approach.

What if we were to proactively teach people how to respect and appreciate their bodies in all of its nude form?  If we weren’t so incredibly prude about it to the point of body-shaming when we think too much skin is shown, we might help people, especially kids, develop a healthy self-image early on which would reduce sexual problems down the road.  After all, nudism isn’t about being sexual—it’s about not being ashamed of being unclothed whether alone or around other people, and preferring that state due to physical comfort.  Anyone who believes pure nudism has anything to with sexuality is misinformed.

Certainly being around others in the nude gives one the ability to lust or whatever else, but that’s part of the Church’s problem—we are so focused on the potential negatives that we completely ignore the possible positives.  What if, instead of worrying so much about how someone might negatively lust, we were to teach people that it’s okay to enjoy physical beauty and that it doesn’t HAVE to be sexual?  As a nurse, I see naked people all the time.  ALL the time.  To be honest, probably around 98% of them don’t really have bodies I consider lust-worthy anyway.  Another way of saying it is that most people aren’t all that attractive in the nude, so the idea that we are going to go into some sort of sexual craze when unclothed around others is silly.  Furthermore, nudism doesn’t have to be a social thing.

A small portion of nudists are social; most we will never know about.  For some, they enjoy simply wearing little or no clothing in the privacy of their own home and would have no intention of doing so in public.  In fact, while I am not a betting person, I am sure that I would win the bet if I were to assume that a number of readers fall into that category—those who enjoy some level of private nudism but no one else knows about it because it’s just that—private.

Much of what decides this issue for each person has to do with what he or she deems appropriate.  Well, appropriateness is cultural, which is something else to remember.  The United States is one of the more reserved when it comes to bathing suits, especially for men, whereas in other countries, such as in Europe or South America, it is entirely normal for men to wear bikinis or bikini briefs or similar—a far cry from the nearly-shin-length board shorts that are the current trend.  In some places in Europe, it is entirely normal for women to go topless, and no one thinks a thing of it because it is a cultural norm.  While the Western Church is typically aghast at this behavior, again, it isn’t inherently right or wrong any more than some aboriginal dude wearing basically nothing more than a thong as his daily-wear is inherently wrong.  It’s just a different culture with unique cultural norms—and in such a setting, they too have ideas of what is appropriate and inappropriate, but they would just be vastly different than what you or I might be used to.

I believe the underlying issue that many believers have with nudism isn’t actually about the practice itself, but reflect their own underlying insecurities, fear, shame, and sexual issues.  I’m not saying that nudism is the solution to all of life’s sexual problems, because it isn’t.  On the other hand, if I had children of my own I would seriously consider raising them in such a way as to at least be comfortable around others in appropriate settings while in the nude because I believe that minimizing the shame, fear, and insecurity of nudity growing up leads to an overall healthier perspective when it comes to dealing with sexual appetites as an adult.  It is my hope that believers as a whole can stop vilifying the human body as though it were inherently evil, and I believe that if we truly want to get at some of the behavioral aspects of sexual immortality, a healthy dose of nudism might just be what some people need.

I should point out, in closing, that at the end of the day the only real solution to sexual problems is the Holy Spirit, the one who is responsible for leading and guiding us into all truth.  Romans 8 explains that as we walk by the Spirit we simply will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.  Behavioral discipline such as that which I believe healthy nudity can provide is just a piece to the puzzle, or maybe a step in the right direction, but the transformative power of God is at the end of the day the only true solution to the issue of sexual perversions, lusts, and immorality.  Regardless of how you manage your own sexual health, I encourage you to continue to be led deeper into communion with God by the Spirit of God, because as you do, you will understand and experience the true freedom found therein.  Blessings!

Energy, vibration, and frequency are gaining added focus as new information about quantum fields come to light, and as new technologies are developed.   Many who are spiritually hungry from all backgrounds and belief systems seek deeper understanding of these topics as they seek to deepen their spiritual growth and experience God in fullness.   For those who are new to this realm, the massive quantity of information out there can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be.  When broken down into various parts, the entirety of the picture can be understood more easily, and the inseparable interchange between science and spirituality can be more clearly grasped.

The first best-place to go to understand the spiritual nature of vibration and quantum stuff is found in the Bible in Hebrews 1:3a.  In the NIV it states “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”   There are a couple words that should jump out in this verse:  radiance, sustaining, powerful, and word.

Radiance involves emanation of light.  Sustenance is to continually maintain or keep someone or something alive or ongoing.  Powerful means filled with virtue or energy or capacity (lit. power-filled).  A ‘word’ is either written or is a vocalization, and in this case it seems to refer to spoken words.  Thus a ‘word’ here is in fact a release of frequencies of sound that are sent forth from the sender.

If this were all put together and the meanings fed back into the verse, it says something a bit more profound and instructive than at first glance.  “The Son, Jesus, is the emanating outward of light of God’s glory, and perfectly represents him.  He continually maintains and keeps alive all things by the ability that is filled with virtue and overflowing with energy which is released through a series of vibrations at varying frequencies that he sends forth from himself always.”

Said a little more simply, Jesus’s continual release of energy holds the fabric of the universe together and keeps all things alive and in existence.  The corollary being that if for even one moment Jesus stopped releasing the energy that sustains the universe, all things would cease to exist.  That doesn’t mean everyone would simply die, but the matter would not actually BE anymore.  It would be NOT.  It would be as it was in the Beginning when God was all that there was, because nothing had been spoken into being yet.

It is no strange thing then that when God created the heavens and the earth that He did it by speaking.  Those who wrote the Bible maybe only saw a portion of what that entailed, but science gives us some interesting insight into this.  First, understand that fields of science have discovered that everything that exists vibrates unceasingly, from the largest building to the smallest sub-atomic particle.  While one might feel like they are sitting still at times, all of the particles of the body are constantly in vibratory motion all of the time.  Absolute Zero is a theoretical temperature that is so cold that matter would cease to vibrate.  It is thought that if one were to get an object at that temperature, the minute subatomic fabric of its makeup would literally fall apart such that it would no longer exist.  It is still a theory because no one has yet reached it, but it is likely an impossibility, knowing what Hebrews 1:3 says — that Jesus is constantly releasing energy into all things to keep them from ceasing to vibrate.   This instantly negates the ‘clockmaker’ theory of creation, in that God didn’t just make humanity and the world just to leave it all alone, but is moment by moment sustaining the existence of each and every single person whether they are aware of it or not.

So what does all this mean for one’s daily life?  That depends on how deep one wants to go.  To start off simply, look at the eyes and the ears – physical organs responsible for sight and hearing/sound.  They both sense information on different wavelengths of the Electromagnetic Spectrum.  On this spectrum are included visible light, infrared light, microwaves, Ultraviolet light, x-rays, microwaves, and radio waves.  There are likely far more wavelengths than the types listed here – ones that are yet to be measured with scientific instruments, but these are the common types of frequencies of the earth.

The visible and audible spectra are not actually somehow different things, but simply different wavelengths of energy.  Eyes function because they take in certain wavelengths of light and translate them into meaningful images.  Ears work because they take in certain wavelengths of sound and translate them into meaningful noises.  Vocal chords work because they vibrate at particular wavelengths and produce certain levels of sound based on how long or short the chords are at the time of vibration.  All of these are examples of the body’s response to different frequencies, but all are just parts on a continuum of energy vibrations.

Medical science has found various uses for these different frequencies as well.  Because living tissues vibrate at a different wavelength from nonliving things, medical procedures can be safely performed using various frequencies.  For example, using certain wavelengths kidney stones can be broken up into smaller pieces that the body can safely expel, a process called lithotripsy, without harming the surrounding tissues.  A machine called an ultrasound uses sonic wavelengths to visualize organs through other tissue – most commonly uses to look at babies in the womb and to look at the flow of blood vessels without actually having to cut the body open to visualize them directly.  MRIs, X-rays, and CAT scans are other machines that use different wavelengths of energy as well, and they can help diagnose problems such as tumors, brain bleeding, broken bones, lung diseases, and any number of other issues within the body.

Common western medical sciences are not the ONLY ones who have found use for frequencies.  Flower and Gemstone Essences and therapeutic essential oils use the frequencies of various plants and plant products to encourage the body toward greater health, supporting and even providing the body with healing frequencies that can be used to balance harmful frequencies, or in some cases remove and resolve them entirely.  There are also devices that are used all around the world (but often not accepted in the U.S. due to the medical mafia) that use frequencies for healing, and these do not require the invasive procedures such as surgical cutting and burning of tissues that often accompanies Western medical ‘cures’.

Another type of frequency-based technology that assists with the body and health/healing largely fall under the umbrella of EMF-shields.  EMF stands for Electromagnetic Frequency, and these frequencies are very harmful to living tissues.  Computers, cell phones, and even refrigerators emit EMFs, and this has caused a significant decline in the overall health of the developed world.  It is almost impossible to evade an increasing number of high-quantity EMFs as more cell towers and wireless internet signals are erected around the globe, in workplaces, and even in homes.  Over time, these EMFs wear down the body’s internal energy fields and make the individual weaker and more vulnerable to every kind of stressor – both physical and emotional.    There are many products out there that also help augment the body’s energy field and help it protect itself from harmful frequencies from all of the electromagnetic items in our world.  While there are many out there, however, not all provide the same benefits, and not all have the same level of R&D behind them.

One of the reasons that this is even a physical need for humans is that the body has a similar electromagnetic field to that of the earth.  And if some thought is given, this makes a lot of sense – the body is constructed from the earth itself.  Even the Bible has said it — “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.”   The human body is made of literal organic elements which can be found in abundance throughout the earth.  However, much manmade technology such as cell phones, radio towers, wireless internet, computers, cars, battery-powered watches, and more create this electromagnetic pollution that degrades the personal energy field and creates openings for sickness and disease.

In the past, the concept of ‘vibration’ has been dominated primarily by non-Christian religious groups and has largely been ignored by all but those on the fringe of the science world, but as time marches forward, all of those barriers are breaking down.  As this happens, new inventions are being made, and even new music is being produced.  For instance, there is a CD that is now on the market titled “Abundant Human Elements” which is a CD of music that has been made with resonant frequencies of the 13 most common atoms in the physical body.  As one listens to the music and is in its proximity, the body is able to more closely match those frequencies in every place where the body’s atomic signal has wavered.  What this means is that this music actually helps heal on the atomic level from damage caused by electromagnetic pollution and even negative emotions, and all one has to do is listen to it to get the benefit!

A man named Len Horowitz did a lot of research into the frequency of 528 hz and has declared it to be the frequency of ‘love’, and a frequency that causes literal DNA repair.  Another notable frequency is that of 432 hz.  Research on either will uncover new and interesting details about music that has largely gone un-taught at least in the Western world, and many people are now changing the frequency of the music they listen to in order to match their music to one of the above two wavelengths for greater health and overall better life.  For those who are interested in learning more, google search Len Horowitz, 528 hz, Solfeggio, and 432 hz, or go to the Friends of Eden links on the right side column and visit ‘Sound that Heals’.

In the same way that these frequencies have physical value for our daily life, they can also have spiritual value as well.  Take one’s thoughts, for instance.  Thoughts are actually scientifically proven to emit wavelengths of energy.  If someone were to know how to READ those wavelengths, they would be literally reading one’s thoughts.  In heaven, where all thoughts are laid bare and nothing is hidden from one another, mind-reading is a normalcy.  Angels and demons communicate in this way as well.  In the blog post “They’re Not Your Thoughts” one can read about experiences where people have had negative thoughts and at some point in time realized that it wasn’t just them doing that thinking, but rather that demons that were putting thoughts in their minds.  More than just ‘thought insertion’, these spirits literally release negative wavelengths of thought and the human spirit picks up on those vibrations, turning them into real thoughts in the mind.  People then blame themselves for this darkness and negativity and even depressing thinking though they are their own thoughts, when in reality they aren’t coming from them in the first place.

Negative thoughts are not the only thought-frequencies at work.  Positive thoughts and feelings vibrate at a different set of frequencies than negative thoughts and feelings, and at a higher level.  Science has proven that the higher vibrations of positive thoughts have marked health benefits, while lower vibration from negative thoughts and even emotions can cause harm to the body.  It is not for no reason that Philippians 4:8-9 states “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”  It is this very fact, that lifegiving thoughts have even earthly health value, which promotes peace in one’s life and environment.  Studies from people such as Masaru Emoto and his ‘Messages in Water’ series prove that our thoughts and beliefs don’t just affect our own selves, but our surrounding environment.  If positive thoughts and feelings bring life to the body then they will also bring life to those around one as well.  There is an author named Gregg Braden who speaks of this in his book titled The Spontaneous Healing of Belief.

While thought life is very important, and continuous thoughts over time start to develop pathways in the brain that promote those kinds of thoughts, there is more value spiritually than just addressing ones thoughts.  Many people actually discern spiritual activity via frequencies.  There are some people, myself included, who even get a ringing sound in their ears at times when there is some sort of spiritual activity taking place.  There is a sensation of a change in atmospheric pressure somehow just outside the ear canal, then an audible high pitched ringing sound is heard.  The pitch and volume vary from occurrence to occurrence, and it can happen in either ear or both.  There is still very little that is understood about this phenomenon,  such as what the differences in volume and pitch mean, but this is conclusively not the same as the medical condition tinnitus.

So what does one DO with all this energy and vibrations information now that it has been gained? Many are trying to sort out just that very thing.  It is proven that certain frequencies perfectly match the brain waves that we put out at different stages of consciousness – alpha, beta, theta, and delta waves.  People have made machines and even music that utilize these frequencies (or lower, corresponding resonant frequencies in the audible range) to help train the mind to go into specific states more easily, and this can be used to some effect in meditation for both health and spiritual uses.  As understanding expands, this also tends to lead people into other energy-related fields and the issue of the ‘energy field’ comes up.

Many different groups have many different terms for this energy field —  aura, energy field, biofield, Luminous Energy Field, magnetic field, and more, but  whether one calls it an aura or a biofield doesn’t in any way alter the nature of what it is and what it does – function as an integral part of ones being.  The physical body, as mentioned earlier, also is influenced by its electromagnetic field (part of the overall energy field) and that of other things around it.  In fact, everything that exists has its own energy field due to everything vibrating at its own frequencies.  Interacting with other energy fields – both of objects and other living things, alters ones life in often-subtle ways.  Even being in physical proximity to another person causes the natural overlapping of energy fields, and the quantum transfer of data from one field to another.  The positive and negative thoughts and emotions discussed above are also transferred at this time, and in such a way it is possible to influence someone without ever saying a single word to them.  Given that this is an influencing factor in daily life, whether aware or unaware, it is no surprise that cultivation and care of that energy field has become an increasing focus in the Western world.

Some Eastern cultures, such as the Indians and Chinese, have developed physical practices that help the body function better and work with this energy field.  The Indians have developed a method of medicine called Ayurveda.  This method focuses on working with the body as a whole to put it in a sort of energy-balance and to correct imbalances.  Chinese medicine does the same, but uses a different set of theory.  There are also myriads of meditation practices such as Qigong, Tai Chi, Yoga, and others that help promote energy-field health.  Whether looking at Indian or Chinese practices, however, both agree on one key point:  that the body has centers and areas of energy within the body that influence its function.  Ayurveda refers to these energy centers as Chakra and Chinese medicine refers to them as Meridians, also understood as lines of energy coursing through the body.  They are a lot like blood vessels, lymph, or the nervous system, but with energy instead of physical tissue.  Acupuncture, shiatsu, and reflexology all operate using these lines of energy and help the body process out and resolve frequencies that promote disease and in their place promote health and vitality.

There are other ways we can make use of these healing energies as well.  Some people wear certain crystals or gemstones for health.  The reason this works is that the stones each give off a certain set of frequencies on an ongoing basis, and those frequencies are purportedly healthy for whatever condition that person is addressing.  Many precious or semi-precious stones carry frequencies that have an emotional-healing component as well.  In various “New Age” circles and among those who practice witchcraft, certain stones may be used in rituals and spells due to the way that they help carry or alter frequencies and store power and energy for spell work, but that is obviously not a practice I recommend.  Nevertheless, the reason people use stones for these practices is precisely because they have influence on the natural realm through the various frequencies they carry.  This issue of whether stones can be used for healing isn’t a matter of right or wrong from a religious perspective, but is a simple fact in that all creation vibrates, and God has put healing frequencies in many of the plants, stones, and other objects in this world, all of which are for our benefit.  The Kings of Eden has collaborated with Freedom Flowers to develop a line of Divine Gem Essences to help capture the healing frequencies in certain gemstones and release them to the world.

Cussing Versus Cursing

I was riding in a vehicle with a friend last week when a driver cut her off and she said something like “I hope you get stuck in the mud.”  I was surprised to hear her say this and said “You literally just cursed that man.”  She disagreed, which led to a conversation about the difference between cussing versus cursing.

The Bible is very clear about the fact that curses are powerful and do actually work.  They are not made-up and imaginary things that don’t actually work.  Anyone who practices any form of sorcery or black magic is well accustomed with curses, as they are a key component in the arsenal.  Bless those who pay you, curse those you do you wrong.  Curses are basically a pronouncement of some kind with an expected end-result that is stated in the curse.  It could be something like “You will never birth a child” resulting in being unable to carry any children to term and/or as has happened in some places in Africa, women who have been cursed remain pregnant for even years at a time with a single child, unable to actually birth it.  It could be much more immediate than that, such as “May you fall and hurt yourself today”, and sure enough you take a spill during your afternoon bike ride.  These are good examples of curses, albeit rather basic ones.  Some have entire rituals surrounding them to enhance the power of the curse while others are as simple as something spoken, something done.

Cussing, on the other hand, is mentioned elsewhere in the Bible where it speaks of not using vulgar language.  The interesting thing about cussing is that in many ways this is highly subjective.  What might be a cuss word to one person is simply a term to someone else.  Some people prefer to use certain cuss words and other “dirty” language during sex, and I suggest the level of appropriateness in those circumstances entirely depends on the parties involved.  What one person might find acceptable is cussing to someone else.  This can cause some embarrassing situations when one person believes something is a bad word and another person does not—I have been accused of cussing on more than one occasion for words that I simply don’t see as cussing.  Hell is a perfect example.  I see it as a location; some people see it is a cuss word.  Opinions vary, which is what makes this confusing at times.  Most cultures have at least some generally-accepted words that most people recognize which simplifies this only a little.cussing cursing curse profanity vulgar language

While cussing is rude, it is not spiritually damaging to other people who hear it.  Some might disagree with me on this, but that is really an issue of being offended at hearing cuss words, but simply hearing bad words does not cause psychic damage.  The confusing thing about cussing is that we often refer to cuss words as curse words which confuses the conversation.  Even I tend to refer to cuss words as such, but for the sake of clarity in this article I am using separate terms to delineate the two.  Cuss words are something we try not to teach to children, and may slip out of our mouths when we stub a toe, get stung by a bee, or have some other kind of painful mishap.    For some it may be normal and meaningful while for others that might be considered profanity.  Curses, on the other hand are usually intentional, have a designated outcome associated with them, and are damaging to the person on the receiving end.  If we had to rank the two from a “badness” perspective on a zero to ten scale, cursing is a ten and cussing is somewhere far below it.

Generally try to steer away from cussing, but never NEVER curse anyone.  When we curse, we have to remember that we reap what we sow.  While we might not receive a curse for every one that we speak, what goes around eventually comes around, and no one wants to reap that kind of harvest.  In the same way that Matthew 26:52 basically says “Those who live by the sword die by the sword”, those who live their lives cursing others will eventually receive many curses themselves.  When we curse others we partner with the demonic realms to draw death, loss, and destruction to the lives of others.

It is an evil practice.

The problem is that we sometimes curse people without realizing it.  If in conversation I talk about a coworker who is struggling with the job, saying, “He is never going to get good at this job.  He really should try a different career,” I have just cursed him.  This sort of casual curse is actually moderately common, which is why we might not even notice we are doing it.  The words themselves are a declaration of failure over that individual, and if we thought he was having trouble before, it isn’t likely to get better after the fact.

Cussing is largely a cut-and-dry issue.  Many people find it rude while other people pepper almost every single sentence with cuss words of some kind.  Often this is a product of one’s socialization environment, as people who use coarse speech regularly will find those around them mirroring that speech and likewise they will continue their speech patterns.  Cursing is another animal altogether.

I know from past conversations that many seem to not distinguish between the two, so I hope this article has helped you grasp the differences.  Furthermore I encourage you to find new methods of conversation that remove all cursing, and find alternatives to cussing if this is something that speaks to you.

Is Death a Form of Healing?

I have heard numerous times where people have stated that someone received “the final healing” after they died.  It’s a nice idea, but it’s not scriptural.  I’m not aware of a single place in the Bible where God said anything close to “I shalt kill thee, and thou shalt reap the harvest of healing blessings as my holy smiting smiteth thee. Yea, verily shalt it be so.”  In the Old Testament death carried a lot of despair, pain, and grief with it.  While that same despair is not expressed much in the New Testament, that is not because of a heaven-when-you-die reality, but due to the fact that through Jesus’ death and resurrection we have access to that same healing, saving, resurrection power.  In other words, death as a form of healing is possibly one of the highest heresies out there, an anti-Christ doctrine in direct opposition to the sacrifice Jesus made through His blood on the cross.

So what does the Bible say about death and healing?

The Bible says a lot of things, but I’ll give you my translation of a favorite verse of mine from Romans 8.   “The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead will also quicken and bring life to your fleshly, mortal, and perishing body.”  If the Holy Spirit is bringing life to our bodies, which are perishing and temporary, then why on earth do we believe that we have to die to get healed?  Or worse yet, that those who died finally got healed because they died?  I don’t know why we believe it on earth, because I can tell you that no one believes it in Heaven.

I recall a conversation I had with a massage therapist at a former Chiropractor’ office a few years back, and I believe God set me up for this one.   This massage therapist is a believer, and I was talking about God healing people, and said something to the effect of “God can grow someone’s amputated leg back.  If he could make the whole earth, a leg isn’t hard for him.”  As I continued in conversation, I repeated this general statement about an amputated leg growing back at least one more time.  Yeah, so as it turned out he had a prosthetic foot.  And no, when I mentioned God growing legs back, twice, I was unaware of this, not to mention that this guy didn’t need the whole leg—just the foot.   I’ll be honest, I was pretty stoked at this, which was clearly a God-setup.  The therapist shared with me that he was looking forward to having a new foot, and my ears perked up at this, thinking that he’d already received a prophecy about God restoring his foot.

 

My response: “Really?  That’s great!  When do you think it’s going to happen?”

Therapist:  “Oh, well in Heaven, of course!!

I’m not sure what my face looked like at the time, but I might have been just short of a visible facepalm.

 

Death is not a healing.  It’s an entirely new spiritual body, which is not the same thing.  I didn’t tell him that, but I did suggest to him that he didn’t need to wait until he got to heaven to have a new foot.  After all, Jesus pretty much stated that God’s will was to be done on earth as it is now in heaven.  If the therapist already knew he’ll have a new foot in heaven, then the next logical step should be to have one on earth, now, in the same way it is in heaven, now.  Well, that’s what my bible says anyway.  Furthermore, even if we die, eventually God is going to resurrect us all as it shows us in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 so we won’t be permitted to stay dead anyway.

The idea that death is a form of healing is a false belief that has lived quite comfortably in the church for centuries.  There’s another teaching that goes along with it, the common belief that God kills people that he wants to be in heaven.  “God must have needed them more than we did”  is the common adage.  I think we really need to get a new grip on who God is.  Honestly.  God created all of us out of His immense love.  If we read just the first 5 chapters of the bible (chapters, not books), we see that the first man and woman walked with God.  And another man, Enoch, did so even after the fall.  God didn’t need to kill any of them to be with them.  And even when God took Enoch to heaven, He didn’t kill the man—God simply translocated him straight into the heavens.  One moment Enoch was on earth, the next he wasn’t, but there was no death involved.

If we want to be scriptural, the only way God is going to take people is if He does it without them dying.  Interestingly enough, the last five chapters of the Bible are pretty similar to the first ones, in that man walks with God once more.  Furthermore, there is no death there either.  When God does things His way, no one dies—He just brings a new heaven and new earth to the present reality and we share it with him.  Paul himself stated that “After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17).  Note how Paul said still alive, not dead.

Let me share a quote from a friend of mine, Praying Medic, that explains the concept quite clearly. “The centuries old teaching that God kills people that he dearly loves and redeems needs to die a quick death. The church has failed to demonstrate the power and authority Jesus gave to it and developed the teaching that God might have a reason for us to die young or suffer sickness.”

Because the Body of Christ, his Church, has failed on many many many many many many occasions to manifest the Kingdom on earth in the same way it currently is and always has existed in Heaven, we have developed finely crafted beliefs about death and healing to help us explain why people die sick.  What we really need to be doing is pressing into a place in God’s heart, a place of faith, and a place of understanding who we are and what we have in Him that sickness, disease, and death no longer have the capacity to exist around us.  We have heard stories of men and women of the faith such as John G. Lake, Kathryn Kuhlman, Smith Wigglesworth, and even older saints such as St. Joseph of Cupertino, St. Francis of Assisi, and others, all of whom did great miracles, but they were no different from us.  In fact, St. Joseph was known to have some form of mental retardation.  The man was a total fool, but he did crazy miracles that have been done by few since.

Jesus said in John 14 that ‘He who believes in me will do what I am doing.  He will do even greater because I am going to the Father.”  He was pretty clear here.  “I’m leaving, you’re staying.  The stuff that I did, ALL of it, it is now your turn to do.”  He didn’t make some special delineation of those special people with the special anointing, special gift,  special faith, or special anything else.  He just said “If you believe in me, then here is the list of what you will do:  Everything I did and then some.”

Jesus was very consistent with what he said and did.  He said that Lazarus would not remain dead and He raised him.  Jesus was a problem solver, consistently defeating sickness, infirmity, and death wherever He went—so why do we as His followers think it is our job to give in easily when death comes our way?  If we’re not going to heal people, and if we’re not going to raise the dead, the least we can do is recognize our shortcomings and not explain them away with spiritual-sounding words that have no basis in truth.  Let’s call a spade a spade and just say that we failed instead of pretending as though the God of Light and Life is doing some special healing by killing people.

I choose a different option.  I vote for pursuing the abundant life Jesus promised us in John 10:10 such that if someone is sick he can’t stay sick even if he wants to.  I vote for living in such a way that death cannot have a hold on those around me, and even if they die, they can’t stay dead because I’m there.  I vote that we change the way we think and speak to encourage the truth that death is an enemy to God and that because we are God’s heirs, it is our enemy as well. This isn’t because I am more special than anyone else, but because Christ in me doesn’t like death any more than I do, and He has promised to give us the power to do something about it.  I haven’t arrived yet, but I’m on the journey.  Care to come with me?
