Writing/Project Coaching

Editing  ●  Writing  ●  Project Coaching

Whether it is helping you get your ideas on paper, plan out and organize your next novel or prepare and revise your work for publication, I am a generous and uplifting editor/coach.  If you have other projects, like starting a business or planning a community garden, pursuing a new career or opening an orphanage, I can come alongside and help you crystallize your vision, develop action steps, and encourage you as you carry them out.

Editing

I offer two types of editing, Basic and In-Depth. With Basic Editing I focus on correcting grammar and spelling errors, clean up mechanical and punctuation errors, and fix problems with style.  Basic editing helps correct immediate errors to make a text appear more polished on the surface.

In-depth Editing works on improving the overall quality of the work to make the writing stronger. I focus on organization and unclear thought progression, ensure sentences support ideas in paragraphs, that paragraphs support the overall flow in the whole chapter, and that chapters are best organized in the whole text.  I point out where to improve continuity of thought and flow within paragraphs and chapters and suggest better transitions. I tighten sentence construction, fix weak sentence structures and eliminate ineffective word repetition.  All basic editing items are included.

Basic Editing: Begins at $10 per 8 1/2 x 11 page double-spaced at 12pt font (pricing can vary depending on project)

In-Depth Editing: Starts at $15 per 8 1/2 x 11 page double-spaced at 12pt font (pricing can vary depending on project)

**In both tiers, pricing consideration is given to half pages at end of chapters or within documents.

Small Document Read Through:  Starts at $100 for up to 30 pages, such as an essay, blog or chapter at 12 pt font, double-spaced.  Over 30 pages is a Whole Text Read Through.  Includes a 15 minute phone consultation with a short, written critique covering recommendations for development (usually 1 page or less).

Whole Text Read-through:  Starts at $350 for 31 to 250 pages of completed manuscript, 12pt font double-spaced.  Additional pages are $1 per page.  This includes up to an hour phone consultation with a 1-2 page written critique covering organization, flow with recommendations for development.

**All projects require 50% down at start of work and final payment upon completion.  All prices in USD.

Writing Coaching

Do you want to improve your writing as a whole?

Have you always dreamed of writing a novel or non-fiction work but don’t know where to start?

Do you have notes or a chapter or two completed but needs coaching through the rest of your work?

Do you need to improve your writing skills for work, a promotion, or other life aspirations?

As a writing coach, I can help you improve your writing as a general whole. I will assess your writing level and develop client-specific recommendations for improvement. I can guide you through exercises to help you overcome writer’s block, to organize the layout for your book or other manuscript, help create an action plan to get writing and coach you through the process.

Project Coaching

Project coaching is a branch of life coaching that is project-targeted.  It can involve writing but isn’t writing-specific.  Whether it is developing an herb-garden, finishing a college degree, starting a small business, or pursuing a new career, I will come alongside you and help you crystallize your vision, develop action steps, and encourage you to stay on task as you carry them out toward success.

I will help you articulate what you want to accomplish and then develop your action plan.  I provide a one-time session where we do an initial consultation and you walk away with a project description, a goal plan and basic steps to proceed.  Or, I can help you to create specific action steps, develop timelines, and provide ongoing coaching sessions where we work together to take a project through to completion.

Examples of a One-Time Session Versus Ongoing Coaching:

One client had her own successful graphic design business and liked her career but she had aspirations of spending time on her own artwork and music.  We explored her skill-sets in these different areas, looked at what she needed to do to maintain her business financially, and where she could cut back time-wise to free up her creative energy to focus on her true heart goals.  During our session, we developed a weekly schedule, plotting out times each week where she could focus on her art and music.  By doing this, it freed her and created inner momentum to pursue her real goals.  We had a brief follow-up a second time just to see where she was at, but she did not need further coaching at that point.

Another client was in an engaging professional career while running community events and facilitating her husband’s nonprofit church organization.  She was in a graduate program, as well, and needed help juggling all of her different life demands.  We met for three longer sessions at the start of her new semester and developed a four-month timeline with date-specific goals, assignments due dates, and community-related deadlines.  One of her assignments was a 30-page research paper which she found overwhelming.  I helped her plan out the steps of the research process, draft due dates, building in ample time for revision.  She was able to turn in her paper early, and, because of the work we did, it was published in a professional publication and used it as a template for future projects at her place of employment.

Meet The Editor:

Sunshine began her literary career in the mid 1980’s after she received accolades for winning her first educational grant as a graduate student.  During her graduate program she began editing for the Humanities Department Chair at Penn State University, focusing on historical documents and academic journals.  She received her Masters in Humanities at Penn State University and went on to teach university-level composition, research writing, literature, and humanities courses for over 26 years.  While teaching she developed an editing and project coaching business with clients ranging from PhD candidates to fledgling entrepreneurs and novelists.  She has also served as an editor for several newsletters as well as published her own poetry, nonfiction newspaper essays, theater reviews, and more.  She has tutored homeschoolers, facilitated children’s writing groups, and edited young adult literature.  In more recent years she has spent time writing curriculum for an adult religious school, creating and editing webpage content, and working on project completion coaching.  Recently, other than homeschooling her three grandchildren, she has edited solely for her husband, author Michael C King.
