Don’t Fear Demons—Make Demons Fear YOU

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”16″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Last weekend we had an AWESOME time hosting the 2018 Portland School of Resurrection (Head over to Oneglance.org if you want to host one yourself).  At the end, we had a fire tunnel, which is basically a cross between a gauntlet and a prayer line.  You walk between two lines of people and everyone lays hands on you as you go, with the expectation that you will continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit and power until you reach the end of the line.  At one point, a friend walked through and as people laid hands on her, she began to choke.  I had felt led to keep an eye on her as she went through, and it turned out this was why—I could see her mouthing “I can’t breathe” as she held her hands to her neck and was crying.

Normally this might seem like a medical emergency, but under the circumstances, it was something different.  This friend has a history of Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA), and as a result has what is commonly termed Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID.  This condition involves the fracturing of the soul into different pieces, fragments and alters, to try to protect the individual from the pain of trauma.  While everyone has fragments, in SRA this is done on-purpose for a variety of reasons, but mostly it is to use the soul like a spiritual battery.  If you want to learn more about fragments and alters, DID, SRA, or just effective inner healing as a whole, check out my coauthored book Broken To Whole.

Back to my choking friend, I pulled her out of the prayer line immediately as I commanded the demons to let go of her, and sat her down on a seat next to us.  I then asked her who I was talking to.  The first thing she did was scrunch up her face and hiss at me. I immediately began to call her core personality up, saying “_(Name)_, come up!”  I did this because I wasn’t quite sure how to get the demons to stop harassing her, or where to go next, and getting her back up seemed like a good place to start.  While I rapidly got one of her main alters back up, as her core self was unavailable, I believe I missed out on an opportunity to bring her into greater freedom.

In hindsight, I probably should have taken a few minutes to interrogate the spirit who was hissing at me, as I probably would have discovered its entry point and been able to get rid of it once and for all.  After all, what was it going to do—hiss at me some more??  I think sometimes we get afraid when we start dealing with demons.  We wonder what is happening to the person inside when the demon is up and controlling the face or body.  We wonder if the demon is going to hurt us (and in all reality, some can, so it’s not an absurd notion to consider), or other concerns or fears.  The problem is that if we give in to those fears, try to avoid the demons, or otherwise freak out, we will miss out on opportunities to help people, like I believe I did.

While a good friend did spend some time praying with her afterwards, and I believe some good was done, she had been afraid the entire time that this episode was going to scare someone there.  And in fact it had scared someone, but the truth is that demons exist, they like to hide their presence in people, and don’t want people to get rid of them.  If someone gets scared because of a fairly weak, hissing demon, then how is that person going to be very effective against powers of darkness?  I believe this encounter could have been not just a time of deliverance for my friend, but possibly even a time of practical training for some of the other people present—a moment where they could encounter a very real spiritual being and discover just how far the authority and power of Jesus Christ in us extends.

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Jesus both taught and commanded his disciples to cast out demons, so how is it any different for me and you?  As the Church, we need to help people grow to a place where you don’t fear demons—but rather make the demons fear you.

6 Keys To Seeing In The Spirit

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Seeing in the spirit is not as hard as people think.  The fact is that most people *already* see in the spirit, and simply don’t realize it.  Certainly there are those who have visions more than others, but it is a skill like any other, and anyone can learn how.  The following are ways I have found helpful to learn and grow in this area:  6 keys to seeing in the spirit.

1. Believe What You See

One of the most common things people do when they have a vision is doubt it—and doubt it immediately.  I do believe the demonic help with this by casting doubt into the situation, but when we think we see something, we have to give it a chance.  Everyone has those double-take moments where they look at something and look again because of what they *think they saw*.  Usually it ends up being something benign, like a person standing there on second glance is a coat hanging on a hook, or a strange looking animal is actually a gnarled tree stump.  Here’s a little secret:  whatever you thought you saw the first time, you *did* see—it was just a spiritual reality, so when you looked the second time, with your natural eyes, you didn’t see it anymore.  Whether a double-take or a vision in your mind’s eye, trust that you saw what you think you saw, and run with the revelation long enough to test it out and give it a chance.  If you do this, you will miss far less of what you are being shown.
– double-take for a reason, yes you actually saw it.  Confidence.

2. Look

In the book of Ezekiel, at the beginning of the book it often says “I looked and I saw. . . ”  Later on it has more “I saw”.  The key here is that he began by looking for things, and eventually he grew to a point where he would see whether he was looking or not.  It is possible to train yourself to see in the spirit, and trying to do so will generally yield better results more frequently.  Oftentimes people are waiting for visions to happen to them.  Go and happen to the vision.

3. Practice

Like any skill, practice makes one improve significantly.  When I first began to learn how to see in the spirit, I would take opportunities to practice this prophetic gift.  I would use almost any excuse to prophesy over people to practice getting visions, and I would spend time in worship and sitting in God’s presence simply to have more encounters.  Partly it was to enjoy Him, but another part of it was to hone my ability to see.  Find opportunities to practice seeing in the spirit, then go forward with expectation.

4. Engage The Power Of Testimonies

Talk to (and read about) encounters other people have had.  The Bible says that faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17).  When we hear the stories of others and their encounters, often they can help activate the gifts inside us and stir our faith to expect to have our own encounters.

5. Have Expectation

Expect visions.  Expect supernatural encounters.  Nothing about anyone else is *more* special than you, so if it can happen to someone else, it *will* happen to you.  You simply need to expect that it will, and by doing so engage the power of faith.

6. Receive

Understand this is an innate ability inherent within your makeup.  Simply receive that truth.  Don’t get yourself all worked up, striving to try to earn or hunt for this gift.  I wish I had known this back when I first learned to see in the spirit.  I spent a lot of time and energy trying to hunt down this spiritual gift because I didn’t understand that *I already had it.* I realized years later that I have seen in the spirit almost my entire life, and just didn’t know it!  It can be helpful at times to have others help activate that gift, but the fact is that the Holy Spirit, the Giver of the gifts, already lives in you.  You already have whatever you need, and don’t need someone else to make it “work” for you.  Just receive this truth by faith, and walk it out with expectation!

When Our Prayers Go Unanswered

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]

Some of you who have followed my goings-on this past week on social media know that last Monday a friend’s husband died, and that since then we have steadfastly pursued his resurrection from the dead.  I wrote an article about it last week here, titled Staying The Course To Raise The Dead.  Well, the funeral was yesterday, and unfortunately he wasn’t raised.  I’ll be honest, I’m rather upset about that fact, and I’m really not okay with it either.  With that said, when things don’t go our way, and our prayers aren’t answered, how do we respond?  What can we do?  There are a variety of responses people have, but I think there are a few things we need to keep in mind in any situation when situations go wrong and our prayers go unanswered.

God Is Never Wrong

The first thing we have to remember is that God is perfect.  Getting angry at God never solves anything, because the fact is that He is never wrong.  Get angry at the devil, get angry at the situation, get angry at whatever, but getting angry with God is just silly.  He’s the only one who can fix things anyway, and getting upset with Him only puts up another roadblock between you and the Ultimate Solution.

Unanswered Prayer Isn’t Necessarily a “No”

God and I discussed this failed-resurrection on the drive in to work last evening, and He said this to me:  “There are far more things going on in the spirit realm that influence your prayers than you have any concept of.”   Usually when prayers go unanswered people assume God actually *did* answer—but the answer was “No”.  I am pretty sure that is rarely the case.  Certainly it does occur, as it did with Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:7-8, but more often than not, what we assume is a No is actually God sending an answer that got waylaid along the way.  Remember back to Daniel 9 where Daniel prays, and then in Chapter 10 where he fasts for three weeks, and after doing so an angel visits him.  This angel explains that he had been held up by the Prince of Persia, a demonic ruling spirit in the heavens, and this angel had to get help from Michael the Archangel to break through the demonic resistance to get to Daniel.  This entire process of spiritual warfare took 21 days to occur, during which Daniel remained in fasting and prayer.  Consider what might have occurred if Daniel hadn’t fasted and prayed until the angel got breakthrough and showed up.  Presumably, he never would have gotten his answer.  I really like something that Apostle John Mulinde wrote titled “How Satan Stops Our Prayers: Combat In The Heavenly Realms“.  Similar to what happened in Daniel 10, it outlines just a few of the things that occur in the spiritual realms that influence whether our prayers are answered or not.

God Doesn’t Cause Bad Things To “Teach Us”

One of the more irritating things I hear people teach others is that God either directly causes or passively and indirectly “allows” bad things to happen to us so that we can learn.  Right alongside that is that He doesn’t answer our prayers because He wants us to walk through the problems and experience the pain, difficulty, and suffering so that we can grow.  Often cited is Paul’s thorn in the flesh in 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, where it is presumed God gave Paul an affliction of some kind in order to help him remain humble—which is basically the same as saying “to teach him a life lesson.”  The Bible is full of references to God’s overarching goodness.  No truly good God would engage in what is essentially abusive behavior to “teach” his kids to grow into maturity.  This means that either God isn’t good, which is untrue, or that God isn’t abusive, and thus doesn’t cause or “allow” calamity to teach us lessons.  I can think of a number of more constructive ways to teach my grandkids not to touch fire than holding their hands to a flame to burn them, thereby teaching them its dangers.  Humans go to jail for that sort of thing.

I find it frustrating and difficult when prayers aren’t answered—I think we all do.  But we have to choose the correct response to the situation.  Sometimes all we can do is say “We’ll just have to get the next one.”  It’s a highly unsatisfying answer, but sometimes that’s the only choice we can make (because I don’t consider giving up to be an option).  Sometimes we have to continue to persevere in prayer, recognizing that if we continue long enough, we should eventually get the breakthrough.  Sometimes we need to spend some time talking to God to learn what we should do differently in the future.  While unanswered prayer doesn’t occur as a purposeful lesson, we can still learn from our experiences, and grow for the future.

At the end of the day, we must be rooted and grounded in the goodness of God, His love for us, and an understanding that even when our prayers aren’t answered how we want, we are sowing into a higher reality that we are pressing toward, and that our prayers never go to waste.  As we continue forward, we will step into higher realms of power and authority, and eventually we will see things come to pass in a timely, and even easy manner.

Staying The Course To Raise The Dead

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font=”Arial||||” text_font_size=”15″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Some of you may be aware that a dear friend’s husband, Steve, died earlier this week.  She, being a woman of faith, didn’t wait and wonder what to do—she began mustering up an army of prayer warriors to stand with her in faith to raise her husband back to life through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.  I have been part of that process, and have attempted to keep the Raise The Dead Initiative and DRT groups on Facebook, as well as my own social media thread, updated with where we stand.  At the time of writing this, he is not alive YET, so please continue to join us in prayer.

Last afternoon I found myself struggling with the situation, given that it’s been a day and a half and we have no clear results yet.  It doesn’t help that I am on the far opposite side of the United States from where my friend and her husband are, so as much as I would like to be more involved, that is made more difficult.  I found myself questioning whether it was “over” or not.

Truth be told, I was really struggling with this.  When I set my faith toward something, I am pretty forceful about pushing it forward in both prayer and action.  Finding myself at a point where I wasn’t sure if I should continue to pray or not was difficult, so I talked to my wife and a good friend both, to help me process what was going on inside me.  When all was said and done, I decided that not only is it not over, but I know a woman whose husband is supposed to return to life and remain by her side!!  I have a battle to fight!

We all go through periods of doubt when trying to raise the dead.  This is entirely normal, and I attribute it largely to the subtle whisperings of the enemy trying to derail our faith, encourage doubt, and get us wallowing in grief, self-pity, regret, and other negative emotions.  The key, I believe, is to recognize when these feelings arise, and then either entirely ignore them, shoving them aside until after the fact, or even acknowledge them, and prayerfully send them to the feet of Jesus.  2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  I believe that taking captive every though also includes taking captive our emotions.  If I let myself continue thinking that “it’s over”, then my emotions will eventually line up with my thoughts, and once I do that, I have no room for faith.

I spent an hour and a half on the phone with my friend the night her husband died, as we and some other men and women of faith prayed over the body.  I heard her crying at times, quite understandably, because the love of her life had just died.  Yet I also knew that if she wanted to stay in a place of faith, she couldn’t let herself be overcome by grief either, so as we continued to pray, I encouraged her in her faith as well, decreeing again and again the will of God for his life, which  is that he will live and not die.  As I did this, it encouraged her to keep pressing forward as well.  Don’t get me wrong—she isn’t weak of will by any means, but I cannot say I would fare any better if anything happened to my beautiful wife either.  I would both want and need friends of faith to stand with me as well.

Managing one’s emotional state in this kind of situation is of utmost importance.  Many people do not realize that emotions are actually tied into our ability to effectively release faith, as much if not more than our thoughts are.  When I want to engage faith for something, I literally stir up my emotions to engage what I am believing for in my thoughts, so that my heart and mind are unified in prayer.

In this situation, I have been trying to listen to the Lord on an ongoing basis to hear what He is saying to me, to receive guidance and wisdom on how to effectively walk this out.  All I keep hearing him say are things like “You’re doing great, Michael.  You’re doing an awesome job.”  When I woke up yesterday afternoon to get some chores done then head to work for the night, I wasn’t in that place, and it took a few hours to get my head settled on right.  Why?  I was having difficulty discerning what I was feeling.

When things get stressful, it can be hard to know whose voice we are listening to.  We have to separate the voices of God, the enemy, and ourselves, and that takes discernment—which in and of itself requires a bit of wisdom.  Fortunately, we have been given the Bible which is chock-full of verses that tell us how God works, what He thinks, and His will for us in such trying situations as this, and the more we understand how He thinks, the easier it is to use godly wisdom to discern who is speaking to us.

One of the things I keep reminding myself, and others, as we continue to pray for Steve to return to life, is this:

There is no plan B.

There are two possible outcomes in this situation:

Either my friend will bury her husband, or she will receive him back to life, raised by the power of God.

Obviously, we are aiming for the latter outcome, and the hard part is that only time will tell.  There is no special way to know what is going to happen, and it can be maddening to watch, wait, and pray.  Yet, that is our task—to pray for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done here on earth as it is in heaven.

If this subject has touched you in some way, and you want to learn how you can engage God’s resurrection power for those in your life, check out the resources below.  I highly recommend six things:

1. Sign up for our Raise the Dead Initiative mailing list here to receive updates, and connect further.

2. Get some books.  I have written two books on the subject:  Practical Keys to Raise the Dead and Faith to Raise the Dead.  Practical Keys is a series of excerpts from Faith To Raise The Dead, all of which give practical advice for when you are actively praying to raise someone at that time.  Faith To Raise The Dead goes more into theology, but has a chapter devoted to resurrection testimonies, an appendix in the back of faith-building scriptures to help you pray for the deceased to return to life, and I answer a lot of common and even difficult questions surrounding the subject.

Tyler Johnson, founder of the Dead Raising Team has written multiple books on the subject as well:  How to Raise the Dead and The Dead Are Raised. Be sure to check out Father Hebert’s encouraging book Saints Who Raised The Dead for pages upon pages of uplifting testimonies about saints in history who have raised the dead in Jesus’ name.

3. Join the Raise the Dead Initiative on Facebook.   The Raise the Dead Initiative is a group I started to help the Body of Christ grow in this area, and I will eventually develop an RDI teaching curriculum to train believers to pray for and raise the dead.  You may also be interested in The Dead Raising Team (DRT) and  Dead Raising Campaign Facebook groups.

4. Look at how you can host or attend a School of Resurrection in your area. Contact Tyler Johnson via his website at http://www.oneglance.org/ to arrange the event.  Tyler is an awesome man of God and good friend who regularly teaches Schools of Resurrection to help transform our understanding on the subject of resurrection life. He has Dead Raising Teams around the world who are ready to mobilize in their area to release the abundant life of Jesus Christ.  You can also head over to Gumroad to buy and download a complete Resurrection School audio series.

5. Watch/listen to David Hogan’s YouTube Series on the subject of Raising the Dead: Session 1   Session 2    Session 3    Session 4

6. Look for and actively engage opportunities to raise the dead in your area by reaching out to friends when you hear that someone has died.

Slowing Down for the Holidays

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]

Christmas is rapidly approaching, and with it comes a variety of other things that require my time and attention.  Thus, I will be taking a brief break from the weekly blog post until after the New Year.  All in all this has been a good, and busy, year.  I published two books, Faith to Raise The Dead and The Beginner’s Guide to Traveling in the Spirit, the latter of which was a bit of a Spirit-led surprise, but which I am very pleased with.  Already I have received messages from people who have found the book to resonate strongly with them and I am encouraged that it is accomplishing what it was meant to do.  In other news, tomorrow and Friday (12/14 and 12/15) I will be doing a 2 day Miracles school on the Sonsrising Facebook page at 10am PST both days (or 7 pm Nigerian time).  Come join us or catch the replay if you miss it.

This year we also managed to successfully launch the Divine Gem Essences in concert with Freedom Flowers, a set of gem essences derived from supernatural gems that the Lord has brought to our house.  I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I have been quite pleasantly surprised by the results.  Sunshine and I both regularly use the Carnelian essence, what I call “motivation in a bottle”, to get things done.

In other news, I am excited to announce that my wife, stepdaughter, and I just launched our new health and wellness company, Sun & Sea Naturals, and are experiencing the learning curve that comes with it.  Currently we are having a Christmas sale with the few products we have out so far.  Take a look, and be sure to use coupon code Holiday3 at checkout to get in on the sale ($10 each becomes 3 for $25.99).  We have many new things planned for the coming year, so be sure to “like” the S&S Facebook page here.  We are planning to focus for now on essential oils, but are working to add some bio-field enhancing products, bath and body items, and more, with a long-term vision of becoming a general wellness clearinghouse.  Please help us get the word out and share with your family and friends!

I am actively working on my Masters of Nursing Education, so I will be spending some of the coming weeks getting caught up on some of that work, as well as generally getting the house cleaned up.  Sunshine and I have been gradually working on downsizing some of the “extra” in our house, moving old belongings out that simply don’t fit where we are at in life anymore, both making room for the new and decluttering and reducing the overall “stuff” energy in the house.

We also got a puppy this year (some of you may have caught my blog post earlier this year titled “How My New Puppy Healed My Heart“), and Rowan is not only growing like a weed, but we’re going to have to spend some focused time training her in the near future, as she is both huge and an energetic atom-bomb running around the house.  She is a much-loved addition to the family, although she gets into everything.

My goal for 2018 is to publish 3 books, one on writing books, one on miracles, and one on the message of life and immortality.  I hope to get at least one class up in the Immortality Academy, so prayers are appreciated toward that end.   We are also hosting our first Kings of Eden event, the Portland School of Resurrection 2018, training and teaching the Body of Christ to have faith to raise the dead.  You can find more information on our Events page.  I am excited for what God has in store for us in the coming year, and look forward to experiencing 2018 with all of you!  Thank you so much for your love, prayers and support, comments, and words of encouragement in the past year, and I pray this holiday season and new year carries immense favor and blessing to you all.

In Christ,

-Michael C. King-

Not Before His Appointed Time

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]

I heard a story recently from fellow nurse who was working in the ER at the time this occurred. She shared how a man had come into the hospital from an accident of some kind, and he was not doing well. The team took the man to surgery immediately.

During the surgery, his heart rhythm became unsustainable. Most likely it was something called Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA) which is where the node controlling the heartbeat throws off electricity but it doesn’t go anywhere so the heart can’t respond, and a shock to the heart won’t fix the problem. As a result of the PEA, his heart wasn’t pumping blood to the body or the brain—he basically died in front of them. This nurse heard the doctor asking everyone’s opinion on whether he should pronounce time of death due to the circumstances, and in her spirit she shouted “no!”

She began to pray and ask the Lord what to do, when He said to her something to the effect of “it is not his appointed time.” She began to pray silently that he would return to life, decreeing it was not his appointed time to die. The doctor decided to give the man a dose of atropine as a last-ditch effort to see if it would do something useful, but he wasn’t expecting much in the way of results. As she prayed and he administered the drug, the man’s heart jumped immediately back into normal sinus rhythm. The team was shocked and somewhat dumbfounded.

Given the circumstances, the drug shouldn’t have had much (if any) effect on the PEA, so it’s relatively safe to say the nurse’s prayer were effective, if not creating a bona fide miracle. She has since learned to pray for people who have died to come back until their appointed time. A nice lesson and an encouraging story; nevertheless, the man died the next day.

This is the part of the story where if it was a movie, you would hear the sound of a record skipping and the story would come to a halt while a narrator gives off-screen commentary—something akin to “Wait, what?”

The man’s life was saved in order to spend a maximum of 24 hours longer in the hospital doing roughly nothing during that time before dying yet again. I suppose we could acknowledge that he “got his heart right with God” before “his appointed time” the next day, but there’s a problem with that idea—the verse that talks about man having an appointed time to die has almost nothing to do with individuals each having an appointed time to die.

This oft-quoted verse is found in Hebrews 9:27, saying, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment . . . ” This is usually where people stop, pointing to the verse to say “see, the Bible says everyone has an appointed time to die.” There’s a serious problem here, namely the fact that this is a sentence fragment, which means if we want to understand what this verse is actually saying we will have to continue reading to the end of the sentence. Shocking idea, I know, taking the verse in context with the rest of the sentence. Hebrews 9:27-28 says, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

The verses in question have everything to do with Jesus Christ dying in our place and removing our date with death entirely, NOT saying that we are all destined to die. Jesus became death for us on the cross so that when we died and were co-resurrected with him in baptism, we became new creations who no longer are slaves to sin. As Romans 3:22b-24 says (again reading the entire sentence for context), “There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” We have all been justified, or made righteous, through the redemption Jesus provided us. And as Romans 6 goes on to explain in detail, the payment for being made righteous is eternal, everlasting, immortal life in Jesus.

Romans 6 is a pretty fascinating chapter to read when we understand all of this in relation to context. In fact, it is so pregnant with meaning that it could easily be its own sermon, and all of it is extremely relevant to this issue of an appointed time to die. I highly recommend you take a few moments and read it right now (click here), but let’s look at just a few verses.

Romans 6:9-11 says, “For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” This passage lays out the following in plain language:

1) Jesus died once and cannot die again
2) Death no longer has power over Jesus
3) His death was sufficient to cover death for everyone
4) He lives alive and well with the Father right now
5) We are to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in the same way Jesus currently is right now.

In fact, the message is so simple it’s easy to miss what this verse is saying in its simplicity. This isn’t some sort of spiritual message about how we need to think of ourselves in our minds as some sort of esoteric spiritual teaching—it literally means that Jesus physically died, can’t physically die again, physically died for us, and now we are supposed to realize that we are already physically dead to sin, and therefore get to live in our physical bodies, alive and well just like Jesus is.

I cannot begin to explain how irritated I get when I hear people quoting Hebrews 9:27 out of context and use it as an excuse to put their faith in what I call the Cult of Death—a term I use for the majority of Christian denominations that tell everyone that while Jesus died so we wouldn’t have to, and paid for sin so that death would no longer have power over us, that somehow death has power over us and we are incapable of escaping it. Not only that, but the Cult of Death also actively welcomes death as the doorway to Jesus Christ, forgetting that Jesus clearly stated in both John 10 and John 14 that He, Jesus, is the door. You cannot have both death and Jesus be your doorway to eternal life—you will have to pick one, and I highly recommend you choose Jesus.

The Mechanism of a Vow

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

A few weeks ago I was jumping on our trampoline with the grandgirls, when one of them, playing make-believe, announced that she was vowing something. I couldn’t even tell you what it was, nor what pretend game she was playing, but I immediately stopped her, then explained to all of them that they are never to make vows under any circumstances. This is uncommon, and unpopular, but I find it very important, and very scriptural. Most people make vows when they get married—my wife and I did not. If people understood vows, I believe they wouldn’t make them, ever, and believe the reason most people do is because they don’t understand the mechanism of a vow.

To explore this subject we need to look at what a vow is, what it does, and why we shouldn’t make them.

What is a Vow?

A vow is a promise that carries spiritual weight behind it. It is best understood as a legal contract that requires payment. Vows are agreements to perform some kind of action, and the payment is the action that the vow states one will do.

Numbers 30:2 says, “If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.”

A vow is a binding obligation that requires one to do everything that he or she has stated in the vow, as it says above. Some other verses related to paying vows are as follows:

Psalm 50:14 “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High;”

Psalm 66:13 “I shall come into Your house with burnt offerings; I shall pay You my vows . . .”

Proverbs 7:14 “I was due to offer peace offerings; Today I have paid my vows.”

What Does A Vow do?

Because a vow is a legal agreement, it carries weight of authority behind it. If the vow is fulfilled, the person is released from it. If not, they reap the consequences of failing to fulfill the terms of the contract.

For this reason Deuteronomy 23:21-23 says, “When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the LORD your God will surely require it of you. However, if you refrain from vowing, it would not be sin in you. You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God, what you have promised.”

It is important to follow through and keep the vows we make, as they are legally binding in the spirit realm and the laws of the universe are designed to enforce the vows we make. A vow essentially creates a covenant between you and the cosmos, and the spiritual laws of the universe expect you to fulfill that which you have vowed. It is a bit like how nature abhors a vacuum—a vow is a bit like creating a vacuum, and nature expects you to fill it.

Why We Shouldn’t Make Vows

Jesus was very clear when he spoke about vows, as was James.

Matthew 5:33-37 says, “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

James 5:12 says, “Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.”

The reason James exhorts people not to make vows is that when you fail to fulfill the vow, you bring yourself under condemnation because you have broken a spiritual agreement. Jesus explained that we are not to swear oaths or vows for any reason because we don’t have control over making anything happen no matter how hard we try. Thus, if we say something we should simply make an effort to keep our word without creating spiritually binding legal contracts. If we do, we are playing into the plans of the enemy, as they will attempt to prevent us from fulfilling the terms, placing us under condemnation and giving them an easy ability to attack us.

There are some other passages that give us wisdom in regards to vow-making, or rather not making them at all.
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 says, When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.

Proverbs 20:25 – It is a trap for a man to say rashly, “It is holy!” And after the vows to make inquiry.

Malachi 1:14 “But cursed be the swindler who has a male in his flock and vows it, but sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord, for I am a great King,” says the LORD of hosts, “and My name is feared among the nations.”

These three verses show us that
1) it is better to not make a vow than to make it and fail it
2) It is foolish to make vows without knowing what you are getting into in advance
3) if you don’t follow through with your vow, you come under a curse.

Conclusion

When we understand that vows are a spiritual contract that legally binds us to either complete the vow or suffer under a curse which opens doors for the enemy to attack us via sin (the sin of breaking the vow), we will understand that making vows is foolishness. The mechanism of a vow is incredibly important. Consider the negative effects that can occur in one’s marriage if you make a vow that you end up breaking somewhere down the line. Will the judgments that the cosmos sends your way due to your actions help or hurt your marriage? How is making that vow actually going to help you be a good spouse if those things aren’t inside your heart already—and if they are inside your heart anyway, do you really need to make a vow?

Jesus and James both instructed people not to make vows for a reason. The simple solution is to not make them, no matter what tradition tells us we should do whether at a wedding or in any other situation. We must become people of integrity who are known for keeping our word. This is evidence of the fruit of the Spirit at work in our lives, and is our responsibility as sons and daughters of God.

How How To Get Free From Past Vows

Most people have already made vows sometime in the past, whether a “pledge” to a group or organization, even harmless ones like the Boy Scouts, or even to a nation.  While personally I support my country, I don’t believe in pledges because they are simply a vow by another name. If you have already made vows and want to get free, it is usually fairly simple, and can be done in four easy steps through prayer.

1.  Acknowledge that you made a vow

2. State that you repent (which means to change your thinking) from doing so.

3. Break agreement with the vow

4. Decree that the blood of Jesus makes it null and void and releases you from it.

In some cases, such as with Freemasonry, you may feel led by the Spirit to do more specific and in-depth prayer, but in most cases the above four steps should suffice.  As with all things, pray as you feel led by God in the moment, and pay attention to other prompts you may feel such as praying over an article of clothing related to that group, or even destroying documents you may have signed your name to in a pledge.  (Please note this does not apply to legal documents such as wills, mortgages, and such.  I am only referring to those pledges and vows that are to groups and organizations, not legal agreements which are the equivalent of you putting your “yes” down on paper, and which you will need at a later date.)

You might pray this prayer or something similar:

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I have made vows to (the group or person you vowed) saying (state the actual promises you made if you can remember. If not, skip this part).  I repent for making them, and choose according to your Word to no longer make vows, and let my “yes” stand alone.  I break agreement and come out of alignment with those vows, and apply the blood of Jesus to cover and protect me.  I decree that the blood of Jesus has already paid every penalty for breaking these vows, and I thank you Jesus for your shed blood that sets me free from every mistake.  I receive the forgiveness and freedom that comes from you right now.  Amen.

8 Keys To Engaging The Supernatural – Part 2

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In our previous installment we covered the first four keys to engaging the supernatural.  We continue this week with the last four.

5. Atmospheres

Another powerful key to immersing oneself in the supernatural deals with engaging atmospheres.  An atmosphere in this context is a spiritual pressure or substance in the environment that influences reality, and it has a significant impact on prayer.  Jesus encountered an oppressive atmosphere when He went to minister in Nazareth.  Matthew 13:58 says, “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.”  This verse shows us that the lack of faith of those present created a negative atmosphere that placed itself in opposition to the power of God and made it difficult for Jesus to work miracles.

On the other hand, Jesus also encountered times when there was an atmosphere of power present at His disposal.  Luke 5:17 says, “One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.”  It says that power was present to heal the sick, which in this case denotes an atmosphere of power that was present which Jesus made use of to work miracles.

6.  Momentum

Along with the function of atmospheres comes the power of momentum.  Momentum deals with velocity—where an object increases in speed as it keeps moving.  An easy example of this is riding a bike down a hill.  Assuming the rider remains upright and hits no obstacles, the bike will continue to gain speed the longer it heads down the decline.  When we build spiritual momentum we take our pre-existing forward motion and use it to thrust us even further forward into the supernatural.

I love attending Christian conferences with a focus on the supernatural because I enjoy the momentum it allows me to build.  By focusing on Kingdom realities over the course of a few days, with a lot of time spent in worship, hearing godly teaching, and engaging the Kingdom with other believers, free of other life distractions, my spirit is encouraged.  As I pursue God in this particular area over a few days, it is like I have already begun riding that bike downhill.  Once the conference ends, all I have to do is continue to pursue in my daily life, and even if my focus is divided by other life events, as I daily engage the supernatural with momentum already behind me, I am able to see greater results.

This can be done with any subject, and I have done this with conferences and events revolving around healing, the prophetic, and more.  Conferences are not the only way to accomplish this.  Any time I sense the Lord doing a certain thing in my life, I usually will find teachings I can listen to on that subject and I engage that thing as much as I can while the Lord is actively moving on it.  This is where I join with the work God is already doing and it builds momentum as well.

7.  Prayer

Prayer is an important key to engaging the supernatural.  Prayer at its most broad definition could possibly be “communing with the divine”.  There are many different prayer methods, and each have their weak and strong points, but prayer disciplines as a whole train our senses to engage the spiritual realms.  This includes encountering angels and demons, having visions and dreams, supernatural visits to heaven, and much more.  In fact, the saints of old were known for having what they termed “periods of ecstasy” when they would spend time in prayer with the Lord.  God would, at times, visit them with His spirit during their time seeking Him, and it was from the prayer closet where they were empowered to work the many miracles recorded in church history.  The same is true today—many of the ministries and people today flowing in the supernatural power of God began in their own private prayer closet.  God is always active and at work, and as we engage Him in prayer, we are gradually transformed by His power and grace, and it is this shift that occurs within us that allows us to touch the heavens, and for the heavens to touch the earth.

8. “Active faith”

Active faith is a little different than what I refer to as passive faith.  Passive faith is where we have a general belief about something, but there is no action associated with it.  Active faith is the opposite—where the belief spurs us into action.  The Bible is full of verses that speak about faith, and some of them speak directly to the issue of how active our faith is.

Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”  It is not enough, therefore, to simply pray and hope it happens, or to generally expect that something might happen someday.  Active faith acknowledges that if I ask God for something, I am to expect it, and to keep active expectation for that answer to appear, knowing that if I have asked, God has already *sent* the answer and I am simply waiting for it to arrive because if I have asked, it *will* come.

Active faith purposes toward belief and expectation as opposed to simply praying and not thinking about it again.  Faith is a force, and we can purposefully extend that force in prayer.  James 1:6 describes this process somewhat in saying, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”  Doubt can be just as active as faith, so we have to choose on an ongoing basis how and what forces we will engage—whether doubt or faith.  As we purpose to transform our minds to believe what God says and as we focus on receiving what we have asked, we are engaging active faith.

Whether accessed via the traditional spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 or through another discipline or ability, we all have been given the ability to engage the supernatural.  In fact, what we consider “supernatural” is meant to be a normal part of our daily life experience.  We are all spirit beings, and all matter is created from the substance of spirit, including our bodies.  Thus, we are simultaneously matter and spirit.  As we learn to engage the supernatural realms, we will discover that our true birthright is to walk in both the natural and spiritual realms at the same time, acting as connectors between earth’s problems and heaven’s solutions.

8 Keys To Engaging The Supernatural – Part 1

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Most anyone with an interest in miracles, angels, or other supernatural phenomenon want to experience them more.  There is something about encountering the impossible that stretches our faith and enriches our lives.  Yet, in spite of the fact that many want to have regular encounters, they can often be elusive.  Here we will look at 8 keys to engaging the supernatural, focusing mainly on how we can access it via spiritual gifts.

1. Impartation

This is where one receives a spiritual gift or grace by way of prayer.  This is mentioned in a few different places, the most notable being Romans 1:11 and 2 Timothy 1:16:

“I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong . . .”  –Romans 1:11–

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” –2 Timothy 1:16–

Both of these verses reference impartation in some way, the first that spiritual gifts can be shared between people, and the second showing that we can increase or enhance spiritual gifts in one another, and that we can also pass them from person to person via laying hands on them and praying.

I have done this many times with a number of spiritual gifts and find it quite effective in helping jump-start people into the supernatural.  One of the things I used to do frequently was get together with others and purposefully impart back and forth from one to another to help grow our spiritual gifts through frequent impartation.

2. Develop your spiritual gifts

All spiritual gifts can be acquired through impartation, but only those who train their ability to use them will become skilled.  The key here is that the gifts are free, but we have to pay a price to develop that which we received freely.  Spiritual gifts are like any other skill or ability.  Master musicians practice for years, not just waking up one morning and having it all figured out.  While it is possible for one to receive an imparted gift at a high level, it is uncommon.   This goes hand-in-hand with impartation.

“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”  –Hebrews 5:14–

This verse explains how those who want to have a high-functioning gift of discernment will receive it through constant use.  When I wanted to learn how to prophesy, I took every opportunity available to practice that ability, and often went and created my own.  Ten years ago I was just learning how to hear from the Lord in an overt manner; these days I hear for both myself and others far more easily than ever, and my level of confidence and accuracy is greatly improved from when I first began (This is not an invitation to request a prophetic word).  Thus, I highly recommend practicing spiritual gifts.

3. Sowing and Reaping

This is a somewhat works-based way to engage the supernatural, but it is effective.  This concept is related to harvest, where one plants a seed, grows it, and the plant bears far more fruit and seeds than just that one original seed-bearing fruit contained.  When I first began to pray for the sick, prophesy, and otherwise experience heavenly realities as an adult, I took this verse in Galatians to heart.

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”  –Galatians 6:7–

It makes a mockery of God to think we can sow something and not reap in like kind.  Thus, if I sow healing I will reap in a healing gift.  If I sow prophetic words, I will reap in my prophetic gift.  If I help others experience the angelic, I can expect to have my own angelic encounters increase.  If I introduce others to supernatural manifestations such as gold dust, oil, feathers, etc. and the baptisms of the Holy Spirit, I can expect to see an increase in my own life.

This key pairs with the second key above, developing spiritual gifts, but it is a different aspect.  The former key covered actively using the gifts to train them, but this focuses on the results of using the gifts on purpose in order to grow them into something greater.

4. New Revelation

Our ability to engage the supernatural is not entirely based on receiving some type of heavenly gift.  New insights open just as many doors for us as spiritual gifts do.  Many men and women of God have had a spiritual enlightenment of some kind, then proceeded to teach others a method they received when they obtained the revelation.  The problem is that those who never received the enlightenment for themselves had a nice method that usually didn’t work as well as those who had the initial insight.

Once, when I was praying and asking the Lord how to increase in my ability to heal the sick, He told me the following:

“If you want to increase in healing the sick, you can either heal a bunch of sick people, thereby increasing your level in the spirit, or you can get a better revelation.”

What this showed me is that something occurs when we receive new revelation that releases power.  There is an expansive Kingdom force that gets deposited inside us as we receive new revelation that opens up greater realms of access to heavenly realities.  While it is difficult to force-receive new insight, as we focus on learning and growing in the supernatural, asking the Lord to reveal His mysteries to us, we will invariably grow in wisdom and insight, opening us up to a greater level of supernatural encounters.

We will continue this discussion in the next installment where we will look at the final 4 of the 8 keys to engaging the supernatural.

Prophetic Bulletin: God is Releasing the Wine of Immortality in 2018

Over the past few days I have been thinking about an annual conference I plan to host in the future dealing with resurrection, abundant life, and immortality in Jesus Christ.  I began to ponder the idea of finding a brand of wine with the name “Immortal” in the title to take communion with. Having discussed it with some friends on Sunday, I decided yesterday (Tuesday) to actually search online to see what I could find.  Keep in mind as you read that I am not a wine enthusiast and do not have any idea what is going on in the wine world—the only way I could come across this under such circumstances is by the Spirit of God.  What I discovered surprised me greatly, and I realized through this encounter that the Lord was releasing a word to the Body of Christ. The word is this: God is releasing the Wine of Immortality in 2018.

The Wine Industry Advisor published an article yesterday (October 31, 2017), less than two hours before I did my online search for immortal wine.  The title is “Immortal Estate to Launch First Wines in 2018,” and as you can imagine, it caught my eye.  The article states, “The vineyard is an organic evolution of Hidden Ridge Vineyard, a winery that has produced wines that have earned a rare 100-point rating from internationally influential wine critic Robert Parker.”

The first thing that caught my attention was the name, Immortal estate, wine immortality abundantlife immortalestate holyspiritjesusfathergod heavenmiraclessignswondersbut what drew me in further is when I read that the vineyard is transitioning from Hidden Ridge to Immortal Estate.  Here’s what that says to me:  What was once hidden in the high places, found in the heavens, God is releasing to us as our inheritance—our estate—the revelation of immortality in Jesus Christ.  Furthermore, the article says this is an evolution, a natural progression from one thing to another.  For those who believe in healing, the natural progression is to begin to believe God for raising the dead for those who were sick and were not healed.  Then, as we get a revelation of God’s desire for resurrection, we get opened to the understanding that God gives us power to raise the dead because it is not His will for us to die, and God brings us into the revelation of immortality.  There is a natural evolutionary process that God takes us through as we increase in revelation in Him.

If you recall back to the story of the wedding feast at Cana, Jesus turned water into wine, but there is a prophetic picture found in that story that relates to what God is saying today.  John 2:1-10 says:

“On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.  When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

The Immortal Estate vineyard is a prophetic picture not just of the transition from the current state in the Body of Christ toward the revelation of immortality becoming better known in the coming year, but also speaks of the quality of this revelation God is releasing.  This revelation has a 100-point rating.  This rating is rarely seen in the wine world because 100 is as high as the scale goes!!  God has saved the best until now!

The bridegroom of the wedding provided wine, but the bridegroom Jesus provided even better wine as time went on.  The Bible speaks of God releasing new wine in a number of places in scripture, which speak prophetically to God releasing new realms of His virtue to His people in the days to come.  Even as God has given us the Azusa Awakening and the renewal of the Body’s use of spiritual gifts, the Latter Rain movement and others wherein God restored a revelation about the function of prophets and apostles, and other movements both prior and post where God has restored various revelation to His body, now God is evolving His church, releasing new wine.  This wine of His spirit is the revelation of abundant, immortal life, that we who live and believe in Jesus will never die.

While pondering this word, the Lord dropped another piece of the puzzle into my spirit.  October 31st 2017, the day this article was published, is the 500-year anniversary of the Protestant Reformation when Martin Luther nailed his theses to the door of a church in Wittenburg.  5 is the number of grace.  100 speaks to the 100-point rating of the Immortal Estate wine, but there is more!  According to this article on Innertech.com, 5 and 100 are defined as:

[box type=”shadow”]5 – HE (ARMS): {h,e,ah} The principle or concept of universal life. The female principle behind creation. The arms hold or bind, as in a covenant or as in love.

100 – QOPH (HORIZON): {q} The exalted state of Aleph. The end of death and the negative. Ancient Hebrew letter pictures a sun splitting the horizon line. The sun sets on death and rises on Life.[/box]

The timing of this word in conjunction with the 500-year anniversary of the Reformation is significant, and it isn’t coincidence. It speaks to the release of grace to end death, and to bind, and hold to us in covenant to this revelation of life and immortality in Jesus Christ, ushering in a new era.

In 2018 we will see a greater release of the revelation of life and immortality that 2 Timothy 2:10-11 speaks about.  We will begin to see even more teachers and speakers releasing this revelation of immortal life.  New books are getting ready to be published that will spread this message like wildfire.  New organizations and ministries will be birthed in 2018 and some will be revealed in 2018 that have been hidden—all of which have the mandate to release the abundant life of Jesus Christ to the nations.  God is releasing a mystery that has been hidden for ages, and is bringing His sons and daughters into a greater level of our inheritance.  Immortality in Christ Jesus is our birthright, our estate, and God is sparing no expense on His part to release the best things to us in this time.
