The Power of Renunciation

The past few months have kept me pretty busy, but one of the things the Lord has been highlighting to me is what I refer to as transformation ministry—what most people call inner healing and deliverance.  I have been doing a good bit of work of late both with myself and family members in this area, and am seeing the fruit at work.  It is incredibly empowering, as it reveals to me more and more about the level of power and authority we have been given in Christ Jesus.  One of the things I have made frequent use of during this process is the power of renunciation.

According to Dictionary.com, the word renounce means to give up or put aside voluntarily, often by formal declaration, or to disown.  Any time we renounce something during a prayer session, we are making a clear statement about what is part of us and our lives, and what we have no involvement with.  There is something about renunciation that creates a dividing line separating us from what the enemy wants to do in our lives.  As we disavow things of darkness, whether overt or covert, it breaks the access the enemy has on our lives.  2 Corinthians 6:14-17 puts it this way:

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?  What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?  What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”

This means it is no longer a “we”, but an ‘I” and “them”.  As we renounce things, and our involvement with them, we are literally making ourselves holy and set apart unto God in that area of our lives.  As we do this, even as the above verses suggest, it makes room for God to enter that part of our lives in a new way.

In a previous blog article, I discussed The Mechanism of A Vow, which touches on similar subjects, but renouncing things works based on spiritual rules.  The things we choose to engage create openness for spiritual entities to engage us in return—what I call the Law of Focus, seen clearly in James 4:8a, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”  When we renounce things, we give it anti-focus, pushing it away from us in the spirit.

Almost anything can be renounced, and it is a fairly helpful and commonly used tool in my inner healing and deliverance toolkit.  Some examples include:  negative emotions, erroneous beliefs, books, activities, movies, video games, organizations, vows, and more.  Certainly not every book, movie, video game, or organization is bad, but some of them are.  Sometimes, it’s not even that the thing itself is bad, but how we have internalized it due to our belief system is unhealthy.  A good analogy of what this does is that these things can open doors in the spirit, and the enemy wants to use them to bring darkness into our lives.  When we renounce them we close those doors and remove the enemy’s access to those areas of our lives.

Practically speaking, let’s say that someone has been playing and enjoying a video game that the Lord has been showing you is unhealthy.  Don’t misunderstand–I’m not saying all video games are bad.  I have written a book called The Gamer’s Guide to the Kingdom of God specifically using MMORPG games as a backdrop for understanding how the supernatural realms of God function.  I’m not anti-video-game.  However, not all video games are wholesome either.  If the Lord is showing you that it is time to put that game down due to its spiritual influence, you might pray the following prayer or similar:

“In the name of Jesus I renounce [name the video game] and all of my involvement in it.  I apply the blood of Jesus to that area of my mind and soul, and ask that you wash it clean with the water of Life.  In its place, I ask for you to fill me with the Holy Spirit.”

This is a super simple prayer that can be used for many different things.   It is one example, but renunciation prayer needs to cover three imperative parts in a specific order:

1.  Breaking agreement with the old (ie. renouncing)
2. Removing the negative
3. Replacing it with positive

As we progress on our individual inner healing journeys, I highly encourage everyone to not just memorize specific prayers, but to understand the principles behind them, such as those shared here.  The above prayer is simple and can be used and remastered for most situations, but when we understand the three parts of a renunciation prayer, even if we forget my example prayer, we can simply make up our own on the spot.  Regardless of whether we use a script or devise our own wording, the underlying principles are very effective.  Renunciation is powerful, and is a simple way to wreak havoc on the enemy’s involvement in our lives, setting us free to enjoy all that God has for us.

Despising Spiritual Gifts

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”16″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Have you ever had a loud ringing sound in your ear? I have. In fact, I was woken up the other afternoon with my right ear ringing quite loudly. I’ve had this happen many times before, the ringing, but never for this length of time, and never such that it woke me up from sleep. The droning noise went on for hours!!

It’s bad enough that I have trouble sleeping at night sometimes due to working night shift, but its even worse when I can’t sleep during the day. Thus, when I woke up around 2:30 in the afternoon, the first thing I did was roll over and try to go back to sleep. That didn’t work so well. At first I thought it was something mechanical, as I can often hear the ringing sound from televisions when they are on, fluorescent lights, and other devices. In fact, when I was a child I could know the moment someone in the house turned a television on even if it was on another floor in another part of the house simply because I could hear the frequency of the television regardless of where I was. This should say something about the pervasiveness of electromagnetic frequencies in our homes and lives, given that this was 20-plus years ago and we have even more technology now, but I digress.

At any rate, I assumed someone must be using some extremely annoying piece of tech nearby that I was hearing, as that was the only explanation my sleeping brain could come up with. After an hour or so, when I finally gave up on getting more good sleep (I had close to 6 hours total I think) and just got up, I realized that it probably wasn’t technology as I have never had tech be this loud and persistent before. From there I realized I might be discerning witchcraft taking place.

It might be a jump to the reader for me to say “ringing in the ears equals witchcraft.” The meaning of this particular manifestation of the gift of discernment of spirits is something I have learned over time. Hebrews 5:14 explains this saying, “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” I simply know it from having it happen over and over. I don’t have a scripture verse to explain it or any other clear marker that points to why I know this is what it means, but typically when I hear ringing in one ear or the other, that’s what I am discerning. This is very different from the medical condition known as tinnitus which is also a ringing in the ears, but a steady and ongoing noise. In my case, it is only ever in one ear or the other, both the pitch and volume vary each time. Usually, when this happens I will pray, and directly after I do the sound fades away, lasting in total for about five to ten seconds (if you feel you understand the significance of which ear means what, please comment below). Thus, one can understand my concern when this lasted for hours.

Again, I’ll point out that I was fairly slow on the uptake to even realize what was happening (although I’ll blame a little of that on sleep ^_^ ), but in retrospect I will also say that my attitude was a bit of a problem. I complained multiple times to my wife, “This is SO ANNOYING!” She took it quite seriously, prayed for me, and was incredibly sweet about trying to help. It did nothing to change the sound at first, which was quite disappointing, but sometime over the next half hour or so the sound did dim down a bit even though it persisted. I found out about an hour later (about four hours after it started) why that was.

I have multiple friends who are victims/survivors of Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA). One of them had a problem that afternoon, which likely began around the time I was woken up by the shrill ringing noise. Without going into detail about the situation, I eventually realized my one friend might be having a problem, I called, and sure enough that was it. This person was even thoughtful enough to apologize for causing me problems, even though it wasn’t their fault to begin with. While the witchcraft I was discerning was certainly a big issue for my friend, there was another problem that was probably just as large for me:

My attitude.

I have spent a lot of time over the past fifteen years honing my ability to see, hear, and perceive the spiritual realms. This is something that I have given immense amounts of prayer, practice, impartation, book reading, more prayer, and more practice. So when I am actually getting the very thing I have prayed for, I’m all bent out of shape about it?? That doesn’t work.

I had to repent about it once I realized how bad my attitude was. Mind you, I wasn’t walking around grumbling to everyone I met about the problem, but my internal state that was an issue nonetheless. In Matthew 5:27-28, Jesus was teaching the Jews, saying “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Jesus raised the bar of expectation somewhat higher than the law. It didn’t matter if one actually committed adultery or not if the idea resided in the heart. This same idea is echoed in the book of Samuel saying, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). God is more concerned about what is in our hearts than our actions, because it is the things within our hearts that cause us problems (Mark 7:15).

My take-away lesson was that while spiritual gifts can sometimes manifest at inconvenient times and in inconvenient ways, I need to have gratitude the Lord has answered my many prayers in such a way. After all, I have not only asked for discernment and to flow in prophetic gifts, but I have asked the Lord to make me aware of what the enemy is doing so that I wouldn’t be taken by surprise. As I reflect back on this, the Lord actually was quite good to me in the situation. After all, I wouldn’t have been able to pray and assist my friend if I hadn’t been made aware of the problem, and I wouldn’t have been able to grow through the encounter if the Lord hadn’t revealed my attitude problem. I would much rather be the guy who has the Lord interrupt my life with inconvenient things for the Kingdom than the guy who has a predictable life and makes little to no impact against powers of darkness to begin with. And in the end, I guess all of that is something that I really can be thankful for.

Fairy Spirits and the Lamb of God – Part 2

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”16″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In Part 1 we discussed the nature of mythical creatures, looking at whether or not they could be something a bit more than “just demons” as the typical Christian party line goes.  We also reviewed at how oral tradition shapes our understanding of real life events, and how that influences our current day beliefs.  You can read Part 1 here.

What do we need spirits to shepherd creation for?  Isn’t that our job?  Whether I sow or reap or plant or whatever, whether I watch it or not, a seed will grow without my help.  But will it grow well?  A mother can birth a baby without help, but will that labor go well?  Nature spirits are essentially the shepherds and midwives of the plant world.  They help plants, trees, and most likely even animals to grow and flourish.  Most often we as humans are busy with our own lives, not busy shepherding plant growth on a remote island or deep in the Amazon.  We appreciate that these plants grow on their own, but I believe they actually have God-created, God-ordained spiritual helpers.

Even so, what does the activity of Nature Spirits have anything to do with us humans?  What if we could work together with the Nature Spirits to help manifest the abundant life that Jesus came to deliver?  What if, in the same way we partner with angels, we could partner with these other spirits? When Jesus calmed the storm (Matthew 8:26, Mark 4:39), was he speaking to the actual storm, or to weather spirits controlling it?  What would happen if we as believers started interacting with the spirits that cause storms?  What if a group of believers risen up and successfully dealt with the spirits that caused Katrina—what might have happened?  If believers who understood the inner workings of the tectonic plates but also the spirits that govern the shifting of those plates had been able to work with them to slow the movement and do it in many smaller increments, maybe the catastrophic earthquakes and tsunami in Fukushima, Japan, back in 2011 could have been prevented.

Some of the big-ticket items that are planetary concerns include global warming, rainforest deforestation, forest fires, famines, and world hunger.  The world has turned to GMOs to find ‘better’ ways to produce crops that are resistant to blight, insects, poor environment, and pollution by altering the very fabric of created things.  They have turned real food into hybrid food that is half real, half laboratory.  Our bodies aren’t made to eat lab food.  We are concerned about our water supply, but then pollute it with oil spills, tanker accidents, trash, chemtrails, and fluoridate our water supply.  At some point, all of this tinkering with nature is going to bite us in the rear.  But what if there is a better way?  I believe that as we partner with these spirits that God has delegated the shepherding of creation to, we will see crops that grow bigger, faster, stronger, with fewer pests, rot, and disease, and will be able to feed far more people with the same number of plants due to higher fruit-bearing with greater nutrient density.  We would be able to regrow the rainforests, but faster than ever before.  We would still be able to use wood as a fuel source, but replenish it as fast as we used it instead of slowly depopulating our world’s trees.  It’s the kind of stuff in the Bible where God does above-and-beyond, and we usually call that stuff miracles, but what if there was a set of spirit-beings that govern some of that stuff that we have completely ignored?  I believe in the future we could possibly enter a time where we will need that super-growth of food.  The human population is on the rise, and a famine could do serious damage worldwide.  When the nations of the world are crying out in hunger, we will need to engage all of heaven’s resources, not just some of them.  I believe quite firmly that Jesus died, as Heidi Baker says, so we would always have enough.  I believe He is the solution to every problem this earth faces.  Yet I also understand that God has given us both spiritual power and spiritual wisdom.  Sure, we can multiply food.  But God also gave us every seed-bearing plant for food.  It’s not a matter of choosing one or the other—I think He wants us to do both.

And where is Jesus in all of this?  I think He is the same place He has always been—enthroned in our hearts.  Sometimes I think ideas like this can be threatening because it upends our worldview.  It changes what we think is possible, and sometimes it makes us look at things in new and uncomfortable ways.  In reality, I think this is one of the safest “new ideas” out there.  Why?  Because it doesn’t threaten or change a single thing about the gospel or the Bible.  It truly doesn’t.  In fact, it could make certain things in the Bible make more sense, not less.  I mean, what was Paul talking about when he spoke of Thrones and Dominions and Powers and all of those things?  Yes, many believe them to be a hierarchy of angels, but what if some of those beings are nature spirits?

At the end of the day, we have to use discernment for everything.  It doesn’t matter who or what the spirit says it is, we must discern wisely.  I have encountered some really freaktastically evil nature spirits, and some really awesome ones as well.  At the end of the day, discernment is always key.  Test the spirits.

One last radical thought—the Bible says that Israel will blossom and flower and bloom one day.  What if this was the answer? With nature working with you, you can grow literally anything anywhere, even in a desert.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I know I have a lot of the right questions.  At some point, we as the Body of Christ, the Church, can’t continue to ignore this subject forever.  I have seen these kinds of beings in the spirit for decades.  I have had people contact me privately to tell me stories they have never told anyone else about nature spirits they encountered simply because they didn’t know anyone else who wouldn’t think they were either crazy, a heretic, or demon possessed.  I recognize this isn’t necessarily the most popular subject to some, but I don’t think we do ourselves any favors by not discussing it.  So why not, here, why not now, why not us?  Over time God has put me in contact with people, mostly Believers, who each carry a piece of the puzzle.  I have been turned on to books here and there that have revealed new possibilities to me, new things to ask the Father about regarding this subject, and yet I think with all our wisdom and insight we understand so very little about the vast creation God made for us.  The secret things belong to the Lord, but the revealed things are for us and our descendants forevermore (Deuteronomy 29:29).  It’s time to seek out some of the mysteries of the Nature Kingdom and live in them.

Fairies.  Often know as the Fair Folk or the Tylwyth Teg or Little People, they have been the subject of many, well, fairy tales.  They are believed by most to be fiction, fabrication, just plain not real.  But are they fake?  If you think about it, we have tons of beliefs in the Christian world, especially those focused on end-times and related “strange” things about UFO’s, Nephilim, Aliens, Giants, and the like.  In fact, I have heard rumors that the main reason the public doesn’t know about a lot of that is due to government coverups from the various nations of the world.  In spite of all those other things, I don’t ever come across anything Christian about fairies. Or Elves.  or Unicorns.  Or vampires, fauns, werewolves, dryads, naiads, trolls, gnomes, pixies, brownies, dwarves, centaurs, wraiths, hags, ettins, flying horses, grass spirits, elementals, and the many, many, many others that I have simply not listed.  If there is so much out there about all of these “other” beings, why couldn’t fairies be real?  And what on earth does this have anything to do with followers of Jesus?  Let’s dive in and take a look at fairy spirits and the Lamb of God.

There are generally only two “Christian” camps in regards to beliefs and opinions about them:

1)  They’re not real.  End of discussion.
2)  If they are real (and if is as far as most will go), then they’re demons and that’s all there is to it.  End of discussion.

There are two problems with those options:
1) I don’t agree with either option
2) “They’re just demons” has never been a good enough answer for me (and I’m the one writing this article, so I win.)

Thus, I propose a third possibility.  What if God created them and we are going to interact with them by choice or by accident, so we might as well have a clue about them, what they’re about, and how to work with them?  To be clear, yes, some of the spirits in question are either demonic in nature or serve Satan although are not technically fallen angels.  We will look at them a bit more in a future article.

Think about this—many stories exist in almost all cultures regarding the activity of mysterious creatures that seem to roam the earth.  Some are dumb as rocks and others as intelligent as humans.  These creatures can be good or evil (which varies from creature to creature), seem to live parallel lives to ours, and only to coincide with ours on rare occasions.  That’s what the stories say, that is.  But I have another thought: what are now considered fables once began as a story from a woman or a man to their children by firelight.  Those tales were passed down through oral tradition while also spreading among people groups.  50 years later, dad’s story about meeting a little green man becomes a story of “your grandfather once met a little green man….”  Add a hundred years to that and it looks like “A long time ago, your ancestor met a little green man.”  Add even more degrees of separations and the tale has moved so far from the inception point that the story is “One day Fred met a little green man.”

What people have come to believe over time about that little green man is based almost entirely upon Fred’s encounter that many years ago.  But wait.  Fred met him, but others have met little green men over time as well.  And so the volume of stories about green men (or mermaids, or whomever) grows.  I think the reason so many stories about these beings exist is not because someone got bored one day and made up “Fred and the Green Man” (or mermaid, unicorn, etc.), but are based in at least some modicum of truth.  Sure, stories grow and change over time as people forget or change details in a centuries-long game of Whisper-Down-The-Lane, but the key elements are the same:  One day a guy met a not-guy, and it was considered significant enough to keep re-telling.

In reality, how different is that from the Bible?  We read about Adam and Eve, Noah, Enoch, and many others who existed long before the Israelites began to keep written records of anything.  At some point all of those stories were written down, and to this day they are told worldwide.  If those true stories were carried by means of oral tradition for centuries, how can we say with certainty that some of these other myths aren’t similar in some way?  After all, many different cultures have a flood story of some kind.  Coincidence?  I don’t believe in coincidences.  Furthermore, if you read the Bible, it’s mostly a collection of stories of peoples’ personal experiences, all of which revolve around the same theme—the God of the Bible sharing his love and interacting  with humanity.

Take it another step, and it’s not actually that big of a jump to say that something like fairies actually might exist.  I mean, we even find these sorts of characters in the Bible.  Think about it.  Ezekiel watched all these flying dudes chucking fireballs at each other underneath this otherworldly storm.  John the Revelator saw these ‘living creatures’ with a crazy ton of eyes and wings all over the place.   Have you considered all the weird combinations of human and animal parts on those ‘living creatures’??  The Bible says it, not a fairy tale.  If we know that fire-tossing spirits exist, and ones that have faces of four different creatures, and ones covered all over with nothing but eyes and wings, then maybe Centaurs and Mermaids aren’t so weird after all?

Let’s assume for a moment that this isn’t quite so “out there” after all (Okay, let’s face it—it’s totally “out there”, but hopefully that some of what you enjoy about The Kings of Eden—we aren’t afraid of the “out there”, and hopefully we even make it meaningful.).  The next obvious question becomes “what is the point”?  I mean, if we accept for a moment that all these things do exist, then why do we care?

I had some friends ask me once if this isn’t all just some huge spiritual charade, a cosmic distraction to keep us busy on unimportant things that have nothing to do with us as humans, and even more-nothing to do with our spiritual walk.  While that is possible, I think it is unlikely.  First off, Paul stated something that if it is a distraction is a valid point— “. . .  in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11).”  If it’s a scheme of the enemy, then at least being aware of it is a good idea.  Hiding our heads in the sand of Ni-ev-etee, the capitol city of La-la-land, never helped anyone.  If these spirits exist (and they certainly do), then we should at least take the time to figure out what they’re about before moving on.  I mean, the book of Revelation has kept people guessing for centuries and everyone has their own inaccurate opinion on the subject, but people still spend tons of time plumbing the depths of the book.  How is this any worse?  No, if we are to inherit the earth, take dominion over it and all that, we owe it to ourselves to at least have a clue of whether we are sharing the planet with anyone.

Let’s pretend for a minute that it’s not all just one big illusory sideshow put on by the enemy, and that there actually is a point.  The faerie realm is something that has pretty much been relegated to the New Age, Wiccans, and the like—people who are unlikely to know Jesus, but who have also hit upon some tangible reality in these areas.  If they are busying themselves with the fairies and don’t know Jesus, and if we care about them at all, we should at least be able to hold an intelligent conversation with them when they tell us about these sorts of things.  Did you know that “they’re just demons” isn’t a very effective evangelistic tool?  Delivery is nine tents of the message.  Even if you are convinced they are demons, coming to the table with some data in advance allows for honest and open communication with someone instead of what amounts to legalistic finger-pointing.

And what if, perchance, those who believe in the existence of so-called mythical beings are actually onto something?  What if there is a purpose to all of this fairy-tale interaction?  Here’s how I see it.  In the same way that God has made all angels ministering spirits sent to those who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14), He has made other spirits to govern other things too.  In Genesis it states that God created the sun to govern the day and the moon the night, but He created light a few days prior.  The sun and moon realistically are probably both a physical object and are or have a spiritual governing entity.  In Malachi 4:2 it says “the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings”.  If the sun doesn’t have a spiritual counterpart, a spirit that directs the activity of the sun, then I have absolutely no clue as to what Malachi is talking about.  And technically, no, it isn’t talking about Jesus.  The word used there is shemesh, which literally means “sun”.  Angels are referred to as stars in a few different places in scripture, and the sun technically is a star.  Why couldn’t the sun and moon have spirits that govern their activity?  And wouldn’t that explain a bit better why so many cultures seem to think that the sun and moon have or are gods? The realm of the Fair Folk and their ilk are all Nature Spirits.  If there are angels or other spirits that govern various solar bodies (what I call Stellar Spirits), then is it hard to believe that other spirit beings govern and shepherd the activities of creation on earth?

Next week we are going to look at this subject further (read part 2 here), pondering what God’s purposes might be in creating nature spirits, as well as ways He might want us to partner with them to steward this earth for all of humanity.

The Mechanism of a Vow

A few weeks ago I was jumping on our trampoline with the grandgirls, when one of them, playing make-believe, announced that she was vowing something. I couldn’t even tell you what it was, nor what pretend game she was playing, but I immediately stopped her, then explained to all of them that they are never to make vows under any circumstances. This is uncommon, and unpopular, but I find it very important, and very scriptural. Most people make vows when they get married—my wife and I did not. If people understood vows, I believe they wouldn’t make them, ever, and believe the reason most people do is because they don’t understand the mechanism of a vow.

To explore this subject we need to look at what a vow is, what it does, and why we shouldn’t make them.

What is a Vow?

A vow is a promise that carries spiritual weight behind it. It is best understood as a legal contract that requires payment. Vows are agreements to perform some kind of action, and the payment is the action that the vow states one will do.

Numbers 30:2 says, “If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.”

A vow is a binding obligation that requires one to do everything that he or she has stated in the vow, as it says above. Some other verses related to paying vows are as follows:

Psalm 50:14 “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High;”

Psalm 66:13 “I shall come into Your house with burnt offerings; I shall pay You my vows . . .”

Proverbs 7:14 “I was due to offer peace offerings; Today I have paid my vows.”

What Does A Vow do?

Because a vow is a legal agreement, it carries weight of authority behind it. If the vow is fulfilled, the person is released from it. If not, they reap the consequences of failing to fulfill the terms of the contract.

For this reason Deuteronomy 23:21-23 says, “When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the LORD your God will surely require it of you. However, if you refrain from vowing, it would not be sin in you. You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God, what you have promised.”

It is important to follow through and keep the vows we make, as they are legally binding in the spirit realm and the laws of the universe are designed to enforce the vows we make. A vow essentially creates a covenant between you and the cosmos, and the spiritual laws of the universe expect you to fulfill that which you have vowed. It is a bit like how nature abhors a vacuum—a vow is a bit like creating a vacuum, and nature expects you to fill it.

Why We Shouldn’t Make Vows

Jesus was very clear when he spoke about vows, as was James.

Matthew 5:33-37 says, “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

James 5:12 says, “Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.”

The reason James exhorts people not to make vows is that when you fail to fulfill the vow, you bring yourself under condemnation because you have broken a spiritual agreement. Jesus explained that we are not to swear oaths or vows for any reason because we don’t have control over making anything happen no matter how hard we try. Thus, if we say something we should simply make an effort to keep our word without creating spiritually binding legal contracts. If we do, we are playing into the plans of the enemy, as they will attempt to prevent us from fulfilling the terms, placing us under condemnation and giving them an easy ability to attack us.

There are some other passages that give us wisdom in regards to vow-making, or rather not making them at all.
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 says, When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.

Proverbs 20:25 – It is a trap for a man to say rashly, “It is holy!” And after the vows to make inquiry.

Malachi 1:14 “But cursed be the swindler who has a male in his flock and vows it, but sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord, for I am a great King,” says the LORD of hosts, “and My name is feared among the nations.”

These three verses show us that
1) it is better to not make a vow than to make it and fail it
2) It is foolish to make vows without knowing what you are getting into in advance
3) if you don’t follow through with your vow, you come under a curse.

Conclusion

When we understand that vows are a spiritual contract that legally binds us to either complete the vow or suffer under a curse which opens doors for the enemy to attack us via sin (the sin of breaking the vow), we will understand that making vows is foolishness. The mechanism of a vow is incredibly important. Consider the negative effects that can occur in one’s marriage if you make a vow that you end up breaking somewhere down the line. Will the judgments that the cosmos sends your way due to your actions help or hurt your marriage? How is making that vow actually going to help you be a good spouse if those things aren’t inside your heart already—and if they are inside your heart anyway, do you really need to make a vow?

Jesus and James both instructed people not to make vows for a reason. The simple solution is to not make them, no matter what tradition tells us we should do whether at a wedding or in any other situation. We must become people of integrity who are known for keeping our word. This is evidence of the fruit of the Spirit at work in our lives, and is our responsibility as sons and daughters of God.

How How To Get Free From Past Vows

Most people have already made vows sometime in the past, whether a “pledge” to a group or organization, even harmless ones like the Boy Scouts, or even to a nation.  While personally I support my country, I don’t believe in pledges because they are simply a vow by another name. If you have already made vows and want to get free, it is usually fairly simple, and can be done in four easy steps through prayer.

1.  Acknowledge that you made a vow

2. State that you repent (which means to change your thinking) from doing so.

3. Break agreement with the vow

4. Decree that the blood of Jesus makes it null and void and releases you from it.

In some cases, such as with Freemasonry, you may feel led by the Spirit to do more specific and in-depth prayer, but in most cases the above four steps should suffice.  As with all things, pray as you feel led by God in the moment, and pay attention to other prompts you may feel such as praying over an article of clothing related to that group, or even destroying documents you may have signed your name to in a pledge.  (Please note this does not apply to legal documents such as wills, mortgages, and such.  I am only referring to those pledges and vows that are to groups and organizations, not legal agreements which are the equivalent of you putting your “yes” down on paper, and which you will need at a later date.)

You might pray this prayer or something similar:

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I have made vows to (the group or person you vowed) saying (state the actual promises you made if you can remember. If not, skip this part).  I repent for making them, and choose according to your Word to no longer make vows, and let my “yes” stand alone.  I break agreement and come out of alignment with those vows, and apply the blood of Jesus to cover and protect me.  I decree that the blood of Jesus has already paid every penalty for breaking these vows, and I thank you Jesus for your shed blood that sets me free from every mistake.  I receive the forgiveness and freedom that comes from you right now.  Amen.

8 Keys To Engaging The Supernatural – Part 2

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In our previous installment we covered the first four keys to engaging the supernatural.  We continue this week with the last four.

5. Atmospheres

Another powerful key to immersing oneself in the supernatural deals with engaging atmospheres.  An atmosphere in this context is a spiritual pressure or substance in the environment that influences reality, and it has a significant impact on prayer.  Jesus encountered an oppressive atmosphere when He went to minister in Nazareth.  Matthew 13:58 says, “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.”  This verse shows us that the lack of faith of those present created a negative atmosphere that placed itself in opposition to the power of God and made it difficult for Jesus to work miracles.

On the other hand, Jesus also encountered times when there was an atmosphere of power present at His disposal.  Luke 5:17 says, “One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.”  It says that power was present to heal the sick, which in this case denotes an atmosphere of power that was present which Jesus made use of to work miracles.

6.  Momentum

Along with the function of atmospheres comes the power of momentum.  Momentum deals with velocity—where an object increases in speed as it keeps moving.  An easy example of this is riding a bike down a hill.  Assuming the rider remains upright and hits no obstacles, the bike will continue to gain speed the longer it heads down the decline.  When we build spiritual momentum we take our pre-existing forward motion and use it to thrust us even further forward into the supernatural.

I love attending Christian conferences with a focus on the supernatural because I enjoy the momentum it allows me to build.  By focusing on Kingdom realities over the course of a few days, with a lot of time spent in worship, hearing godly teaching, and engaging the Kingdom with other believers, free of other life distractions, my spirit is encouraged.  As I pursue God in this particular area over a few days, it is like I have already begun riding that bike downhill.  Once the conference ends, all I have to do is continue to pursue in my daily life, and even if my focus is divided by other life events, as I daily engage the supernatural with momentum already behind me, I am able to see greater results.

This can be done with any subject, and I have done this with conferences and events revolving around healing, the prophetic, and more.  Conferences are not the only way to accomplish this.  Any time I sense the Lord doing a certain thing in my life, I usually will find teachings I can listen to on that subject and I engage that thing as much as I can while the Lord is actively moving on it.  This is where I join with the work God is already doing and it builds momentum as well.

7.  Prayer

Prayer is an important key to engaging the supernatural.  Prayer at its most broad definition could possibly be “communing with the divine”.  There are many different prayer methods, and each have their weak and strong points, but prayer disciplines as a whole train our senses to engage the spiritual realms.  This includes encountering angels and demons, having visions and dreams, supernatural visits to heaven, and much more.  In fact, the saints of old were known for having what they termed “periods of ecstasy” when they would spend time in prayer with the Lord.  God would, at times, visit them with His spirit during their time seeking Him, and it was from the prayer closet where they were empowered to work the many miracles recorded in church history.  The same is true today—many of the ministries and people today flowing in the supernatural power of God began in their own private prayer closet.  God is always active and at work, and as we engage Him in prayer, we are gradually transformed by His power and grace, and it is this shift that occurs within us that allows us to touch the heavens, and for the heavens to touch the earth.

8. “Active faith”

Active faith is a little different than what I refer to as passive faith.  Passive faith is where we have a general belief about something, but there is no action associated with it.  Active faith is the opposite—where the belief spurs us into action.  The Bible is full of verses that speak about faith, and some of them speak directly to the issue of how active our faith is.

Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”  It is not enough, therefore, to simply pray and hope it happens, or to generally expect that something might happen someday.  Active faith acknowledges that if I ask God for something, I am to expect it, and to keep active expectation for that answer to appear, knowing that if I have asked, God has already *sent* the answer and I am simply waiting for it to arrive because if I have asked, it *will* come.

Active faith purposes toward belief and expectation as opposed to simply praying and not thinking about it again.  Faith is a force, and we can purposefully extend that force in prayer.  James 1:6 describes this process somewhat in saying, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”  Doubt can be just as active as faith, so we have to choose on an ongoing basis how and what forces we will engage—whether doubt or faith.  As we purpose to transform our minds to believe what God says and as we focus on receiving what we have asked, we are engaging active faith.

Whether accessed via the traditional spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 or through another discipline or ability, we all have been given the ability to engage the supernatural.  In fact, what we consider “supernatural” is meant to be a normal part of our daily life experience.  We are all spirit beings, and all matter is created from the substance of spirit, including our bodies.  Thus, we are simultaneously matter and spirit.  As we learn to engage the supernatural realms, we will discover that our true birthright is to walk in both the natural and spiritual realms at the same time, acting as connectors between earth’s problems and heaven’s solutions.

8 Keys To Engaging The Supernatural – Part 1

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Most anyone with an interest in miracles, angels, or other supernatural phenomenon want to experience them more.  There is something about encountering the impossible that stretches our faith and enriches our lives.  Yet, in spite of the fact that many want to have regular encounters, they can often be elusive.  Here we will look at 8 keys to engaging the supernatural, focusing mainly on how we can access it via spiritual gifts.

1. Impartation

This is where one receives a spiritual gift or grace by way of prayer.  This is mentioned in a few different places, the most notable being Romans 1:11 and 2 Timothy 1:16:

“I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong . . .”  –Romans 1:11–

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” –2 Timothy 1:16–

Both of these verses reference impartation in some way, the first that spiritual gifts can be shared between people, and the second showing that we can increase or enhance spiritual gifts in one another, and that we can also pass them from person to person via laying hands on them and praying.

I have done this many times with a number of spiritual gifts and find it quite effective in helping jump-start people into the supernatural.  One of the things I used to do frequently was get together with others and purposefully impart back and forth from one to another to help grow our spiritual gifts through frequent impartation.

2. Develop your spiritual gifts

All spiritual gifts can be acquired through impartation, but only those who train their ability to use them will become skilled.  The key here is that the gifts are free, but we have to pay a price to develop that which we received freely.  Spiritual gifts are like any other skill or ability.  Master musicians practice for years, not just waking up one morning and having it all figured out.  While it is possible for one to receive an imparted gift at a high level, it is uncommon.   This goes hand-in-hand with impartation.

“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”  –Hebrews 5:14–

This verse explains how those who want to have a high-functioning gift of discernment will receive it through constant use.  When I wanted to learn how to prophesy, I took every opportunity available to practice that ability, and often went and created my own.  Ten years ago I was just learning how to hear from the Lord in an overt manner; these days I hear for both myself and others far more easily than ever, and my level of confidence and accuracy is greatly improved from when I first began (This is not an invitation to request a prophetic word).  Thus, I highly recommend practicing spiritual gifts.

3. Sowing and Reaping

This is a somewhat works-based way to engage the supernatural, but it is effective.  This concept is related to harvest, where one plants a seed, grows it, and the plant bears far more fruit and seeds than just that one original seed-bearing fruit contained.  When I first began to pray for the sick, prophesy, and otherwise experience heavenly realities as an adult, I took this verse in Galatians to heart.

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”  –Galatians 6:7–

It makes a mockery of God to think we can sow something and not reap in like kind.  Thus, if I sow healing I will reap in a healing gift.  If I sow prophetic words, I will reap in my prophetic gift.  If I help others experience the angelic, I can expect to have my own angelic encounters increase.  If I introduce others to supernatural manifestations such as gold dust, oil, feathers, etc. and the baptisms of the Holy Spirit, I can expect to see an increase in my own life.

This key pairs with the second key above, developing spiritual gifts, but it is a different aspect.  The former key covered actively using the gifts to train them, but this focuses on the results of using the gifts on purpose in order to grow them into something greater.

4. New Revelation

Our ability to engage the supernatural is not entirely based on receiving some type of heavenly gift.  New insights open just as many doors for us as spiritual gifts do.  Many men and women of God have had a spiritual enlightenment of some kind, then proceeded to teach others a method they received when they obtained the revelation.  The problem is that those who never received the enlightenment for themselves had a nice method that usually didn’t work as well as those who had the initial insight.

Once, when I was praying and asking the Lord how to increase in my ability to heal the sick, He told me the following:

“If you want to increase in healing the sick, you can either heal a bunch of sick people, thereby increasing your level in the spirit, or you can get a better revelation.”

What this showed me is that something occurs when we receive new revelation that releases power.  There is an expansive Kingdom force that gets deposited inside us as we receive new revelation that opens up greater realms of access to heavenly realities.  While it is difficult to force-receive new insight, as we focus on learning and growing in the supernatural, asking the Lord to reveal His mysteries to us, we will invariably grow in wisdom and insight, opening us up to a greater level of supernatural encounters.

We will continue this discussion in the next installment where we will look at the final 4 of the 8 keys to engaging the supernatural.

Devas, Nature Spirits, And Talking With The Trees

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”15″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

My first conversation with a tree was back in 2007 on the island of Oahu; it was a palm tree. It wasn’t a very nice conversation either. In fact, I can’t really call it a conversation as it was completely one-sided—the tree told me to get off its island. How rude. My wife and I did leave a few weeks later, but certainly not at the direction of that particular tree. While I suppose it might not have been the first time I had talked to a tree, it was the first time one talked to me, or at least it was the first time I was listening.

Another time, a year or so later, I was taking a lunch break at work, and sat in the middle of a small grassy field to eat. In the spirit I observed a small green guy moving around on the grass. He was about twelve to eighteen inches tall, and it seemed to me that he was the spirit over the grass I was sitting on—not just that little patch beneath me, but that entire field. We didn’t converse, and I was content to simply observe him. Not only that, but he threw a piece of grass at me. I’m not kidding. While I was there watching him, a small piece of grass landed on my chest out of nowhere. As I was the only visible being around, it kind of left him as the only available culprit. I don’t think he was being mean though, just expressing himself, I guess, or maybe playing? I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure if he was aiming to afflict me in some way, it would have involved more than a harmless piece of grass.

Since that time, I have discovered a bit more through my experiences of dealing with plant spirits, and history has a bit to say about them as well. Many cultures recognize the existence of these spirits, including the Greeks and Romans, various Native American tribes, and the druidic people of Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales. The Japanese call these spirits ‘Kodama’. Ancient beliefs in things such as forest spirits and nymphs are largely rooted in this truth: Certain spirits exist that are connected to particular aspects of the physical world, including certain plots or areas of land, rivers or sections of waterways, and plants. It is the job of these spirits to be caretaker or shepherds of the thing they are connected to. Initially I used to observe them in relation to trees and other plants, but I have since begun to see spirits that are connected to rocks, ground, rivers, and even the wind, storms, and stars as well. Some of these spirits are benevolent, but certainly not all of them. As best as I can tell, only some individual plants have spirits that watch over them, although most plants have some sort of caretaker, even if in a group and not individually.

To make this a little more confusing, I’ve not quite figured out the difference between the spirit of a plant itself, and the caretaking spirit of a plant. What I mean is that I have had conversations with both plants themselves and plant spirits. What differentiates the two is that the first is the actual physical plant. The second is an ethereal spirit being that is in some way associated with the plant or plants in question. Some have called these spirits “devas”, spirits that are more like angels in that they deal with the essence of the form of the plant, addressing the ethereal energies that make up the fiber of its very being. I have also seen what I might term “nature spirits”, spirits such as elves or fairies that actually deal with the plant itself on a level somewhere in-between the physical and the ethereal/energetic realm.

What makes all this so difficult is a few things. I have talked to plants, devas, and plant spirits, but being that it is spirit-to-spirit communication and I am human, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them. When I think I am talking to a plant, it is theoretically possible that I’m actually conversing with a plant spirit that I simply was not aware of. I have also found that it’s awfully difficult to observe nature spirits without their awareness of it. And when they’re aware you’re watching, at least the ones I have seen, they are unlikely to continue doing whatever it is that they do normally, and are more likely to respond to your presence. After all, most humans neither see nor interact with them so I suppose it must be exciting to them, or at least a vaguely curious thing when one of us does.

What I find even more interesting is some of what legend and myth tells us about the subject of nature spirits, devas, and the like. Dryads, a common term for tree-nymphs, are supposedly caretakers of trees. Technically, dryads are specifically spirits of oak trees, but the term is often broadly used to generalize all trees. Hamadryads, however, are a slightly different breed. Like dryads, they too are caretakers. However as legend has it, they are so closely tied to the tree they inhabit, if the tree dies, so do they. Dryads do not have this level of mortal connection with the plants. If a tree dies, they might hurt or be upset, but they don’t die. While myths can actually be a good source of information, with truths hidden among the fiction, in this particular instance looking to myth only serves to muddy the waters further. At what point does a plant live separate from a plant spirit, and at what point can a plant spirit live without the plant? If the spirit dies, does the plant die too? I have no clue, and I suspect that it varies.

What I have figured out is this: Plants and plant spirits generally enjoy communication with us. I have met some particularly mean or ill-tempered plants, but most are generally happy. Personally, I’ve noticed that evergreens tend to be grumpier than most. It may just be me, but I have met fewer happy evergreens than other plants. However, the evergreens in Oregon seem to be a bit cheerier than those on the East Coast U.S.A. Although since evergreens do get targeted yearly around Christmastime, I suppose they’ve got something to be grumpy about. I mean, who ever heard of a “Christmas Sugar Maple” or “Christmas Willow”?

Plant spirits live all over the place. You can’t really get away from them, nor should you try. They live most places where plants are, and in reality, if there are no plant spirits around then you probably need to bring some greenery into your life. While it might not be clear to us as of yet what benefit we get from having these beings around, we do derive benefit from plants, and as such should be appreciative of what they do. Which begs the question: What exactly do plant spirits do?

Answer: As I stated earlier, they are hard to observe. So instead, I decided to just ask Holy Spirit, since He knows everything. This is what he told me:

Plant spirits’ job is to care take plants. They try to keep them free of diseases, and work to ensure sure they get sufficient sunlight, water, etc. While this is not always possible, they do manage things in the overall sphere of the plant. Like humans have angels, these are helpers that work on behalf of the plants themselves. They enjoy what they do. In a sense, they are like farmers. They are obviously agrarian in nature, and so some people have made a connection between these spirits and gods and goddesses of farming and harvest. That connection both is there and it isn’t. It is there in the sense that people’s awareness of plant spirits does influence positively their harvesting and crops. All spirits appreciate attention, and when you give them attention, they are more likely to want to do a good job with your crops. It is not there in the sense that they are not gods, or at least not how humans typically conceptualize them. There certainly are strong and powerful nature spirits, and this is where some of the agrarian myth has come in. Ultimately, all the earth is God’s, and should be treated as such. While these spirits *do* help out, they are not to be worshiped.”

Like humans, every plant has an energy field. Plant spirits help care take that field, and manage the corporate energy field of groupings of plants. For example, individual grasses in a field are so close to each other that their fields are constantly merged, and oftentimes many have shared roots, all part of the same plant. Plant spirits work with the subtle energy of the plants to create the best for all the grasses there. This also happens in forests, but in the case of larger forested areas, both more and more powerful spirits are needed. Like Elemental spirits, they manage the overall state of that within their domain.

Since asking Holy Spirit about this many years back, I had the fortune to be reminded by a good friend of Findhorn, a community in Northern Scotland he had told me about a few years prior. I proceeded to order the book The Magic of Findhorn’ and dove in. As it turns out, that was a wise idea, as the book greatly increased my own understanding of the realms which I was already seeing and communicating with. If you are curious about this subject, I highly recommend picking up a copy.

The book proceeded to elaborate on the lives of Peter and Eileen Caddy and the community that was built around their efforts to be led by God in all things. While not overtly Christian, they had a clear understanding that God was at the center of all things and attempted to live their lives out of that, receiving daily instructions from him. In this process of living from “daily manna,” over time and through circumstances they found themselves jobless in a caravan in a caravan park at the edge of the town of Findhorn. Having no job, little money (on the “dole”, aka welfare), and needing something to supplement their meager resources, Peter started a garden.

The process of growing this garden included advice and direction from God through Eileen, including how to engage the ethereal energies of the universe to bring the best health and life to the plants. At some point however, their friend Dorothy, who had thrown her lot in with them, began to connect with what she called ‘devas’, the spirits who, as I explained earlier, were sort of the ‘Archetype’ spirit of that plant. The first she spoke to was a pea deva, and proceeded to meet many other spirits since, welcoming and communicating with each every time they brought a new plant into their garden. Interestingly, she was told by one of the devas that she would only be able to communicate with the devas of those plants that were in the garden. As you can imagine, over time this garden grew not only to be monstrous in size, but with the help of the devas, the plants were imbued with energies far greater than those found in any normal farmer’s field. But it didn’t stop there.

Robert Ogilvie Crombie, known as Roc, met up with the Caddys and Findhorn as the community was beginning to attract other people. While Dorothy was connecting with the Devic realm, he brought his own unique flavor to the mix—the Nature spirits. His first experience was with a satyr in a park near his house in London, and he had since met with the god Pan on multiple occasions. Pan is, as myth suggested, a satyr of massive size, complete with the horns and all. Mind you, while the book termed Pan a ‘god’, I personally believe that had to do with Roc’s understanding of Pan’s purpose and position and the fact that historically he was considered one of the ‘gods’, not because Roc in any way worshiped him. And for lack of a better term to describe him, a non-capitalized “god” works just fine, and I will continue that here. After all, the scripture states that we too are “all gods”. What impressed me about Pan was that at one point he too, like the angels in scripture, entreated Roc at one point to worship God and God only.

During this process of encounters with Pan, Roc also met a king of the elves, and he began to form a relationship with the Nature Spirits. It seemed that there was a sort of reconciliation that was happening between Man and Nature Spirits through this process, and Roc was the intermediary that had been chosen for the task. As a fringe part of the Findhorn community he brought with him this fascinating knowledge and experience that only increased the supernatural nature of what was taking place there. It became apparent over time that the Nature Spirits could either help or harm the activity of the plants, and that while the devas were somewhat less attached to the outcome of individual plants, the Nature spirits got quite upset when plants were killed, pruned, or torn down, especially when this happened while in full bloom.

The book goes into much more about all of this, and I recommend that anyone who has further interest get their hands on a copy of this fascinating book. There is far more than I could possibly expect to share here. While I recognize that many might question the nature of these spiritual experiences these people were having, let me remind you of two things. First, all spirits have to be tested, and I only share this here because I have done that to my own satisfaction and sincerely believe that they are part of God’s Kingdom. Second, keep in mind that I read this book ONLY after I had already seen elves, fairies, and many other nature spirits, had talked to ‘devas’ and communicated with plants. For me, this book has been a divine blessing, confirming and clarifying things I already had a glimmer of understanding about, but those of you who read it can and will decide for yourselves as well.

I do caution you, however, against deciding this book is not of God without actually reading it. The reason I say this is that there is so much in life and our understanding of God and this world that comes by revelation alone. I am not so ignorant as to reject all revelation that doesn’t line up with my current understanding, and do actively seek wisdom in these matters. For me, The Magic of Findhorn was a God-sent book that I read at the right time, when my own understanding and revelation could take me no further. Even now I consider this book to be a primer for anyone who wants to interact with the Nature Realms as a whole.

I am currently at a place where I am trying to put knowledge and experience into practice. While the book and my own experiences offer the beginning-point of a grid for these things, I understand that I will not truly know any of this deeply unless I am willing to step out and do and see for myself. While I cannot say I have seen dramatic results on our property, I have no doubt that as we continue to co-labor with these spirits on the earth that we will uncover new depths of God’s provision for mankind, animals, and even all creation. And if for some reason all else fails, we will still have a great garden.

When The Lights Go Out

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”15″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

I’m not so much afraid of the darkness itself, but I do get bothered by those spirits which seem to prefer to roam about in it.  Often at night, especially when the moonlight is not strong, I close the curtains.  The evil spirits that roam about make me uncomfortable, and sometimes I feel they congregate near the windows of the house just to bother me.  Thus, I draw the blinds.  Closing the curtains doesn’t make the nighttime spirits go away, but it makes it so I don’t notice them as easily.  I can’t possibly try to fight every spirit that comes out, so I find it far easier to ignore the things that appear when the lights go out.

One of the most perplexing observations I have made to date about things spiritual is that evil spirits are more active at night.  Certainly most tales of myth and lore agree with this, and if you speak to almost any child he or she is far more afraid during the nighttime hours than during the day.  In fact, even adults are more fearful after the sun goes down than when it is high in the sky, but the subject rarely comes up.  After all, what adult wants to admit to being afraid of the dark?

It is a curious thing, and one I have always wondered about.  The best explanation I can give is that the energy from sunlight has a restraining effect on evil spirits, and while far less-so with moonlight, a full moon is a better time to be out and about at night than during a new moon when no sunlight is reflected back upon us.  The first chapter of Genesis reveals some interesting insight into this matter.

Genesis 1:14-19 says, “And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.  God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.”

I find it very interesting, and telling, that the sun and moon have three main functions as laid out in 1:18—to give light, govern the day and night, and to separate light from darkness.  At first glance, these would appear awfully redundant, but I think they are talking about different things.  The first is a physical function—giving light.  The second is a matter of authority—denoting what these celestial bodies are responsible for, and what they govern.  The third suggests that they act as some sort of boundary or dividing line, separating light from darkness.  If we consider this, I suppose it becomes less surprising that evil spirits would be less overtly active during the day, because the sun has separated them as being from the darkness.  At night, especially when the moon and its illuminating powers are at a lull, the forces of darkness and all manner of evil spirits are left either very minimally restrained or totally unrestrained.

I used to imagine vampires were outside my third-floor bedroom window when I was a kid, and even as a teenager.  I didn’t believe they existed, I didn’t watch horror movies, and I had no understanding of visions, yet I would unintentionally imagine them from time to time anyway.  The thing was that when I would see them in my imagination, I was always totally creeped out by them, and would often leave my room and go downstairs where other people were—even though I thought myself silly for doing it.

As an adult, I discovered those vampires I used to imagine were very real, and when those images would come into my imagination it wasn’t because I was creating them or summoning them to me.  Rather, I was simply observing that which was already there.  The imagination isn’t a land of pure fantasy—it is the canvas of our mind by which our consciousness perceives spiritual reality.  If you find the darkness uncomfortable, you aren’t alone.  I suspect there are many people out there like me—those who are disturbed by the spirits that come out after the sun goes down.  You aren’t simply being bothered by things you imagine, but rather those things you see in your imagination are very real.

I haven’t figured out a good solution as of yet.  Certainly prayer helps, in theory, but as I said, I don’t have the time and energy to try to deal with every single thing that goes bump in the night in the wide world, so I tend to focus on those that I see inside the house, and those outside get the curtains drawn.  What do you do to help deal with unwelcome spirits when the lights go out?

The Beginner’s Guide To Traveling In The Spirit

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” text_font_size=”16″ use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Hey Friends of Eden,

I’m excited to announce my new book has just been published!  Some of you may have seen the story on social media, but this book has been a whirlwind of activity.

Earlier this year, my wife and I began preparations to attend The Gathering conference in Tacoma, Washington.  Sunshine had the idea to put together a book of testimonies about spirit travel for the event.  As I pondered the idea, I considered writing a book on the subject—something that Praying Medic had suggested last year.  I had been busy at the time working on other books, and even when my wife suggested it, I was preparing to start a different book entirely.  Without knowing I was praying about this and considering it, my friend Mahesh gave me a confirming prophetic word, and from there I set out to put this book together in record time.  With only about four and a half months from the time I began the manuscript to the time I had to publish to be ready for the conference,  while working a full-time job and meeting all of life’s other responsibilities, I pushed.  Even after life got in the way and we eventually had to pull out of the event, I still felt the book needed to be done in time for The Gathering, which it has!

This book came together in a near-miraculous fashion, and it brings a unique perspective to the spirit travel movement.  I cover the basics, including seeing in the spirit, the gift of discernment, and the biblical basis for traveling in the spirit.  I also discuss things I have not heard many talk about, including speaking to the cloud of witnesses regarding whether to raise them from the dead, as well as an entire chapter discussing the ethics of spiritual travel.  While geared toward those new to spirit travel, this book is designed to help bring wisdom to the movement as a whole, covering important subjects that will help guide the reader into a deeper level of maturity in this area.

One of the things I am excited about for those of you who have followed along for a while, is that years ago, my friend Praying Medic and I began to discuss spirit travel and translocation with some regularity.  Somewhere along the way, we received a revelation that there was a kind of spiritual superhighway that was being built to help carry all of the traffic in the spirit that would be on it in the future.  Furthermore, we could sense that it was our job to help build it!  Last year Praying Medic published his book Traveling in the Spirit Made Simple, and just today I have launched The Beginner’s Guide to Traveling in the Spirit.  It never ceases to amaze me how God can give us revelation that years later plays out in ways we could never have guessed, which in this case is figuratively “paving the way” for people to access this spiritual gift by way of revelatory teaching and activation.  This speaks volumes to me about how these books are not just highly revelatory, but are cutting edge!  And while it might sound a little odd to say that about one’s own book, I have watched over the past decade as spirit travel has gone from a very secretive practice to something that many openly embrace.

I am positive that The Beginner’s Guide to Traveling in the Spirit is a helpful training tool to anyone who wants to either begin or get better at spirit travel, and I look forward to hearing how it has touched you!
